model 66 no dash
Hi Gents, I`m considering a 66 no dash ,like new in the box with tools and papers -all stainless serial # ak67***- It may even be unfired . Can one of you fine smart expert S&W fellows advise as to value and year of shipping?
The same seller also has a 22/32 kit gun in a red box-no tools or papers, but the box is numbered to the gun and the grips are too. It also appears unfired ser # is: 16** same question value and year of shipping.
Many thanks in advance, Jack

You have read the serial number wrong on the 66. It should start with a number from 1 to 9 followed by the K.

IIRC the Model 66 was introduced in 1970 in the high K-900,000's and changed over to the 66-1 around 1977 but as Ashlander pointed out most have a number prefix like 2K, 3K,4K, 5K, 6K (etc).
Model 66's made prior to around 1975 are usually found with the SS rear site and plain SS ramp where later ones usually have a blackened SS rear site with a red ramp insert.
If the one your looking at has a SS rear site its easily a $750 to $1000 package in todays market IMO.

As for the kit gun, I have SN 29XX, 4 inch nickel, and it was shipped in July 1954. If blue, probably around $1300, nickel would bring in more.

The S/N for the kit gun should be a 1st year 1953 example. With Red box and matching stocks it's a very desirable collectors gun. I agree Jack that $1200-$1600 depending on condition, finish and barrel length, 2 or 4". I could be off on value but it won't be worth less. Since you are buying it I would seek other more expert collectors of this exact model. Also identify finish, condition and barrel length.
FYI the Red Boxes from early 1950s are bring $200-$350 on FleaBay by themselves. At least for the Chief Specials and variants. So that may help in determining value.

Here's what the SCSW says:
1972 - 2K55997-2K99999; 3K31280-5K6616; 4K1-4K1627
1973 - 4K1628-4K54104; 5K6617-5K7362
1974 - 4K54105-4K99999; 5K73963-6K58917; 7K1-7K26043
I interpret the above information to suggest the revolver you refer to is most likely a 1974 vintage (?), however, strictly looking at the numbers it could be from 1972 (3K31280-5K6616) (?).
As to value, assuming my interpretation of dates is correct, which would assume non-stainless rear sight, I would guesstimate a value or price of $600 - $900 depending on your location, face to face transaction, or price at a LGS.

1974 would be correct. The 1972 numbers in the Standard Catalog are misleading.
