Default Got my Eye on a NYSP Model 28-2

Found a nice Model 28-2 w/4" bbl that I think I'm gonna purchase. It has NYSP stamped on the left side of the frame above the trigger. Assume that stands for New York State Police, right? Couple more things I notice is that it has the red ramp front sight and a white outline rear. Did the NYSP order these Model 28s configured as such. Serial # is N45XXXX which I believe to be 1977. Comments?

I remember them being sold off around `83 or so. A bunch of buddies bought some through Shotgun News. I passed I had a 6" Model 19 and I couldn't see a need for a 4" revolver.

Probably the one gun deal I saw that I kick myself about. (That and $59 SKSs.)

When I stumbled onto a Highway Patrolman sitting there in a display case calling me, I pretty much bought it on the spot. You can't let those get away.

Yes, that's the proper configuration for an NYSP 28. I passed on one a few years ago and still regret it.

Does it have the target hammer and target trigger too? I believe some did. I've been looking a long time for one like that. Congratulations.
If you buy it, please post some pictures.

The one I'm looking at has the standard hammer and trigger. Also, has the target stocks. I'll get some pics up just as soon as I get 'er home.

I too passed on one early in my collecting "career" - I would still love to have one - the RR FS and W/O rear sight is common on many of the NYSP HP's that I have seen.

Looking forward to the pics.

Alright, someone with a good memory tell us what the price in Shotgun News was in '83.

Oyaji, your description is accurate. I retired from the NYSP in 2008. We retire the Model 28-2 in 1981 and swapped them out for the Model 681. Mine was shipped in July 1979 with a SN of N547582. Here are a few photo's of mine, hope this is ok.

I have collected all of the NYST & NYSP revolvers the uniform force has carried since 1917. Hope you get yours.
