Model 13-1 information
I have a model 13-1 sn D960251. I am looking for any information. It is nickel plated and has adjustable sights, pinned barrel, and counter sunk. I have never seen this combination in a 13-1. Any info is appreciated.

Hello, you sure it has adjustable sights? I have a 13-1, nickel 4" square butt heavy barrel with fixed sights # D78546X. I didn't think 13's had adjustable sights.

That is a "gunsmith special." 13's are a fixed sight revolver, and yours has a sight set that was added later. I don't think they do that sort of modification work at the factory. The finish is a hard chrome, Metaloy, Armoloy, etc. You can tell by the silvery "steel" look to it. Personally, I like the look, having done some similar mods and refinishes back in the 1970s.

Dglend:
Welcome to the Forum. If the piece has a factory nickel finish, there should be a large, capital "N" on the rear of the cylinder. Without actually inspecting the piece, it looks to me like someone with time, skill, tools, and money, or access to same made a Model 66 out of a Model 13. It's a handsome looking piece, and I'd love to know the backstory, or more about it if possible. How does it shoot?
Regards,
Dave

Agree now that I can see the gun. It's definitely been smithed, with added target sights and hard chrome finish. Looks neat though.

Thanks, I have been reading for years, this is my first post. There is a large capitol N on the side of the but under the grip and the number 27773 which I think is some kind of manufacturing number. Inside what looks like the original grip you can almost make out a the year but not quite.
I do not know the history since I traded for it years ago for a Colt 45 long case. I did not know the fellow, so I cannot ask him.
The gun shoots very well and smooth as you would expect. Wish I knew more about it which is one of the reasons I posted it. If anyone can give me date of manufacture etc. from the serial number that would be something at least. Not sure if that information is still out there.

That is a very interesting one! I have a very early 13-1. Early enough to be a factory overstamped 10-6 frame. Yours indeed looks like one that somebody decided to turn into a Model 66 look alike.
Here are a couple of pictures of mine just for reference, and some pictures of the overstamping...

Likely 1977 . . . a neat gun with what looks like well-done gunsmithing to add the target sight.

It looks to me like the gun has been hard chromed and a rear sight added along with a modified front sight.
Those changes are all good ones for being conducive to shooting and carrying. This is a no nonsense fighting weapon, and I really like it.
Thumbs up from me.

Hello looks like you have a fine 13/66 there, enjoy your fine smith. Here's a 13-1 4" nickel hb square butt pic I recently got from a good friend.

I think it's late 1976 or early 1977.
