Pachmayr Grip adapter or
Gripper grips.
I am torn. I love the right-sided S&W emblem on my model 10-6 and want it to remain visible. The Grip Adapter may be a more authentic aftermarket part to my 1977 10-6 but is the Gripper grip actually the better way to go for shooting and CC? After all, the rubber grips replaced the grip adapters. But is there a sort of coolness to having that grip adapter?
Going to buy one or the other and figured I check in with the experts here and to see if there are those who've used both and like one over the other.
I'll be carrying this from time to time but mostly will be used at the range.
I like the Gripper grips version of Pachmayr grips because it does not cover the backstop of the grip.

I generally find the K-frame Pachmayr grips too large to be comfortable. My 1968 Model 10-6 came with a Mershon adapter (basically the predecessor of the Pach adapter), and I left that in place as I find it very comfortable to shoot, it doesn't enlarge the grip (for carrying), and keeps the wooden stocks I like in place (for looks).

I too prefer the grip adapter. Fits my hand better and wont snag my over-garment like rubber will.

I prefer the T grip, but I do have a set of Pachmayr Grippers on one gun.

Was heading in the direction of T-Grips but stumbled on these old Pachmayrs. Are the Packmayrs made of metal/aluminum or plastic. I thought I read someone say they are plastic but I may have misunderstood.
T-Grips; I wish they took visa or whatever, other than a sent printed form with a check payment. This is why and how I stumbled onto the Pachmayr's. I searched Ebay for readily available T-Grips and they were asking $40.00 plus shipping!
The seller must know what a pita it is to order and wait for T-Grips. I thought these Pachmayrs would be an interesting alternative. So thought I'd investigate

If you like the T-grips check out B-K Grips.

And these can be purchased on line. I big plus in the 21st century.
It looks like these are some sort of composite? Does the black wear off?

No, the color is solid thru and thru. I placed one on my EDC Model 37-2 and pocket carried and shot it for 3-4 years and the adapter still looked new. This was an older one clip model and it was rock solid. The 2-clips should be even better.
ETA... Yes it is a composite polymer.

Sounds tempting. Just looked to see if these are being sold on Ebay. I have a $25.00 Ebay gift card burning a hole in my computer!
May just need to go old school. But they look nice especially since the color is through and through!

Absalom, are these Pachmayr Grip-Adapters made of metal or plastic and if plastic how do they feel?

They are made of plastic. They feel good in my smallish hands.

I got my first grip adapter many years ago, to go on a Ruger Speed-Six with the 2 3/4 inch
barrel. Back then you could buy a Tyler's in any gun store, off the shelf.
These days, I go with BK's simply because they are a good product, and easy to order when
want one. E-mails are answered quickly.
Here's a set on my Model 28.
I just ordered a Pachmayr grip adapter for a Colt Official Police 38 I recently acquired. The only
reason I didn't get a BK for it, is they don't make one for Colts. (I know. I asked. One of those quick
reply E-mails.) I should have it in a day or two.
I did have a set of Pachmayr gripper grips "back in the day." They worked great, but would probably
tend to grab a cover garment.

I have used both the grips adapters and the Pachmayr grips. For me, I have settled on using the grip adapter for most of my revolvers. It allows me a better purchase on the revolver but does not impede my method of carry. Also, I shot competitively and the Pachmayr would shift enough on the frame as to give me two distinct groups. Not good for scores!

I like a set of Pachmayr Presentation grips for my K frames in square butt. It gives the same feel, effectively, of the service grips combined with the adapter. Concealed carry with this grip is not an issue. I carried my M10-6 4" in an OWB holster under a shirt with no issues. Probably my favorite K frame SB grip shape/style.

As John already said, the Pachmayr adapters, just like the earlier Mershons and the black Tylers all were your basic molded plastic, nothing fancy. I never realized how popular they were back in the day until I started buying used police revolvers, and the majority of guns from the 40s, Colts and S&W's, came with one of those installed. I originally left them on for historic reasons and then really have come to prefer the feel to the clingy polymer grips. I must add that I do not shoot hot magnum loads anymore.

That looks awesome! I don't have those nice ivory grips but that pachmayr grip is certainly vintage on a vintage gun!

I use Pachmayr Presentations on K-frame and N-frame guns and a Gripper for my GP-100. It was the only grip I found to fit the frame right on the Ruger and handles very well.
On the Smiths, I also like Uncle Mike's, if you can find a nice set. They're discontinued.
I prefer a covered backstrap, which keeps perspiration off the gun and probably lessens recoil effect. The Presentation feels terrific in my hand. So does the Presentation Compac for J-frames.
On J's, I sometimes use smooth factory rosewood stocks and a Tyler adaptor. Very comfortable and controllable. But those older smooth rosewood grips with medallions are hard to find and they usually aren't cheap.
Overall, I like the way the rubber grips stay put in a sweaty hand while you're looking for dangerous people, especially if it's raining or in a humid August. And they don't dent or scratch if you hit them on the car door while working in uniform.

Well, I finally hit the buy-it-now for the Pachmayr Grip Adapter.
I guess I did it because they are few and far between. There was only one other for a K-Frame and the one I chose, although a bit more$, was in better cosmetic condition. This adapter will go right along with my slightly worn model 10.
So, funny thing; I had an Ebay $25.00 gift card. So I hit the buy-It-Now and went to PayPal thinking I'd have a chance to use the number on the card but nope!. The money came right out of my account! What to do?
Well, damage done! I still had a perfectly good $25.00 gift card! SO I ended up figuring out how the heck to use the stupid thing on-line and did it the right way; I now also bought RWS .117 pellets for my Crosman air pistol and I also bought 10 Chinese surplus stripper clips form my SKS!

Pachmayr grip adapter
Gents:
I am trying to duplicate the model 66 4" square butt I carried on duty many years ago.......and it had the Pachmayr grip adapter with the standard wood stocks. Fit my hand perfectly.
Sure would love to find one of those grip adapters, so if anyone has an extra they might part with please let me know.
Thanks in advance.
