41 mags
Here are a couple of my favorite oddballs, both .41 mag. The six-inch started life as a Model 28, then acquired a new barrel, cylinder, sights, and finish to become a 28/41. I know nothing about its origin, but the rear sight is marked BEHLERT, so I wonder...Could Austin Behlert have done the conversion? Any light you-all might cast would be very welcome. The gun has a wonderful trigger and shoots like a dream.
That's also true of the second gun. I don't know who did it, but it's great work -- an original Model 57 (no dash) cut from six inches to three and a half with an added ball detent, a modified grip frame, Fuzzy Farrant grips, a fabulous action, and a satin chrome finish. It fits in the hand so nicely. Again, does anyone know who might have been the smith?

The top one came from Mass. correct ?
If so the previous owner worked at S&W.
It was an S serialed 28-2 at one time.
It is neat that it is pinned and recessed.
Would make a really good hunting gun

Yes, Paul/Weatherby, you're right, it did come from Mass, and now my poor old brain has been working on it a while, I recall that I've already been told about the fellow who worked at S&W. So thank you.

You got a good buy on that one.
I was sorely tempted to buy it myself.
With the way it is set up it should be an excellent shooter.

Yes, it's a wonderful shooter, maybe the best of all my Smiths. My other former Model 28 is pretty good, too. That's an S-serial no-dash four-inch that still has its original barrel and cylinder. The smith bored out the whole shebang to .44 Special AND recessed the cylinder for 44. The barrel still says '.357 ctg'.
