My Indiana Jones Revolver
Hi all,
Just acquired this chopped 1917. All numbers match (533 under the barrel, on the cylinder and bottom of the grip). Missing lanyard ring, and original stock. The blueing appears to be original. One odd thing that I noticed and hope someone here can help with is an oval cut out on the inside of the top strap. I discovered this while inspecting the flame cut. I don't think this a result of flame cuts. There is no end shake to speak of, the BC gap is really thin, dings and scratches all over but it puts a big smile on my face....

Commonly known as a "fouling cup" it was used during the era of black powder to give the powder residue a place to collect and not interfere with the cylinder rotation after firing.

Perfectly normal factory cut. It is also found on the Colt 1917 as well. On the Colt, it is located slightly forward of the location it appears on the S&W.

Very nice revolver with nice case hardening on the trigger and hammer. What is the stamp on the top left side frame just forward of the hammer?

It has the GHS stamp no flaming bomb. This is a real early one. 3 digits SN.

That's really nice! Always wanted a chopped 1917. Now you just need a cool flap holster to carry it in! Enjoy that one.

The M1917 cut to 3.5 to 4" is very well balanced DA revolver

A little off-subject but (sort of) related...I recently went to a special movie / music event: a screening of Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark… with John Williams' epic score performed live by the full Philadelphia Symphony Orchestra! Great night out with my daughter who had bought the tickets for a Christmas gift. Oh, and the gun is really cool also. A friend has a cut-back 1917 and its just a lot of fun to shoot.
