Following up on my post of several days ago on a 64 NY-1 NYC police service gun the responses and research have shed a lot of info on my new gun- but for those who know here is my question.

Most 64's of that era price out in the $400/600 range both st GB and the pricing books. There were several offered at the $1000-1250 range on GB. I can't buy that the NYC PD special run commands that premium. Any one have definative knowledge on that? Thanks.

I cant imagine a 64 NY-1 would bring four digit bucks... and if it would, I have one to sell.... I believe your 4 - 6 range is more likely.

When I worked for a security company, prior to a career in law enforcement, I carried a model 64. I regret ever selling it, and many other great revolvers of that era.

There were large numbers of surplused NY-1 model 64s (mainly through J & G Sales in AZ) up to a few years ago at $300-350. They go up in price from 4" SB, then 4" RB, 3" RB and 2" RB.

As usual, when searching auctions/results, look for completed auctions with a selling price. Asking is different than what you get, in gun sales and life too .

There actually is a current bid on the board for a 64 NY-1 for $1260. The pix posted appear to be a NIB weapon with box, original wrap wax paper and a pretty pristine cardboard box. Appears to me to probably had been a later inventory gun and never sold to an officer or used. Has the S/N on the left side of frame under the cylinder window which confirms it was a later issue.

Mine and few others I have seen all have a little holster wear on the forward end of the barrel. Roy said ship date was July of '87 which pins it to one of the first runs. Does not have S/N on frame either which came along a little later. Still has original grips too. Roy called a "neat gun" which makes me feel good! Digging into the history of some of guns makes this fun.

If it has box and papers and looks new, it well may be one of the over-run guns that went elsewhere. Some people just want NIB. I'd be curious to see what the gun on GB you are looking at actually sells for.

Those prices are way high. Might want to change your thread title to include "NY-1 Question" -- we have a couple collectors here who know the NY-1s backwards and forwards; a title change might lure them out.
