AS I was getting out of my car, my 642 slipped out of the holster and fell on the concrete drive. It hit on the side where the cylinder release is. The cylinder has some scratches, there is a ding right over the turn line. Will this ding interfere with the hand when cycling the gun. Hope I explained it correctly. Help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Hi Sir most likely not.
With a carry gun ensuring so is in order though.
First thing I would do is unload.
If you have snap caps try with them in it .
Then I'd try a live fire at the range.
The hand isn't involved with the turn line -- it's caused by the cylinder stop riding the rotating cylinder.
Unless there's severe asphalt chew, cycling should be fine. I'd unload it, put the ammunition in a different room, double-check the revolver is empty, then commence dry fire to ascertain feel and function.
Likely all's well, and every carry revolver picks up character sooner or later.
I highly doubt the ding would affect operation. Unless the ding is as deep as one of the notches in the cylinder and in a place where it would directly precede the next notch. Pictures would help judge if the damage is actually going to affect operation
