Rare, hardly. -2 models are the most common variant of just about every S&W. Valuable? Depends on your definition. Current value depending on condition will run somewhere in the $650-1,200.

If it is blued then it is blue. If bright then it is Nickel, just that simple. N480*** should be sometime in 1978.

Note: The "Shift" key gives you capitol letters to begin sentences with and the "Personal pronoun", I.

Welcome elkslayer9910,
You are going to have get that Model 29-2 out for some fresh air! As previously stated, they are not rare but VERY common. They make great shooters. I have (2) blued 29-2's a 4" and a 8 3/8". They are quite enjoyable especially if you handload for them. Here's a pic of my 29-2 shooter from 1977 and my first new handgun purchase.

Welcome to the forum & congrats on discovering a great gun.

1978 sounds right. My 29-2, N417xxx, was made in late 1977, when I bought it. It's a pinned (barrel) & recessed (charge holes) model, & pre-Endurance package (not as strong in spots as later models) but still plenty strong for any reasonable loads. Dust if off & try it out.

.

1977, Nickel, M29-2, 6-1/2" bbl.
