Deal or No Deal?
A friend has a model 14-3 with a serial number of
K830***.
Details: I would say about 85%-90% condition, grips are not numbered to the gun (target grips with no serial number, but have the gold S&W medallion). 6" barrel I believe.
Asking $650............deal or no deal at this price point?
*He's not going to go any lower than $650*
Thank you!

"How much do you want it?" is the real question.
It *may* be a little on the high side, but if you really want it, then not a bad idea to get it. It is not terribly overpriced, especially for a fine revolver such as a pre-lock Model 14.
If it happens to be a 4" variant, which is rare for a Model 14, then it could be a steal.
Also, for revolvers with barrels of 4" and longer, I prefer target grips myself. They just fit me very well.
Hope this helps a bit.

That would be the current value for a NIB gun of that vintage, or one with slight wear, I think.

Short answer: Probably no deal but it depends. I think the price is about $150-200 too high from an individual and about $100 too high from a dealer.
Longer answer: If you live in California then it might be a deal. Prices and availability in California are less-than-friendly for the buyer.
A quick look at Gun Broker shows similar Model 14's as described by you might go as low as about $400 and as high as about $550.
Surprisingly a LNIB Model 14-3 went for $1295 (an anomaly) whereas most other LNIB Model 14's went for closer to $650-850.

85/90% is the deal breaker. @ $400 maybe.

To me, an 85% gun means the finish is in very poor condition . Lots of holster wear ,lots of blueing worn down to bare metal , etc.
If that is the case , sounds more like a $ 400 shooter to me .

Forgot to mention, the SN puts it as a 1968 production gun.
