Saw a clean Mdl10 with orig grips at an LGS $495 asking. I didn't inspect as I wasn't interested.

So I'd say to high.

I just went and found the listing the dealer has Mdl.10-5 it's about 85%+ on finish, looks like low round count.

$350 plus or minus seems fair for a shooter grade model 10.

I agree gun show prices tend to be on the high side.

Here's a link to a post about a member who bought a finish-challenged model 10 for $135.

A gun show is a great place to buy new guns, especially new handguns
that are in demand because you can expect to see several dealers
that have them and the competition between them is a good thing for
buyers. But for older stuff that can even be remotely considered to be
a "collectors item" a gun show can be a mine field. Gun shops are even
worse. Good buys can be found at gun shows some times but you
really need to know how to evaluate potential buys yourself and
be patient. I've gone to many gun shows with high hopes and ready
to buy and left empty handed.

I don't under stand why these vendors spend the time and money to travel and set up a table and have their guns ridiculously over priced. You would think they would get tired of hauling them around show after show.

Exactly what I have said time and time again! Thought prices were ridiculous just in my area but seems it's the same all over. Seems $350 for that .22 bolt action is a bit much just cause it ain't made anymore! Bet most of the stuff is lugged back home on Sunday night.

If you are comfortable (and confident) enough to buy online, there is currently a good supply of later law enforcement turn-in model 15-5 to 7s in the $350-400 range. With careful and quick decisions model 10s are about $50-75 less - when you see a nice example of either at a decent price they tend to sell quickly. Good luck in your search.

I once knew a dealer that told me he didn't really want to sell. He just enjoyed watching and talking to people. He didn't need the money and if he sold something he would just buy something else so why bother to sell. He was a nice guy to talk too and I guess it made sense to him. Larry

Bought a pre model 10, 4" at the Oaks Show outside of Philly late last year. Dealer had it tagged at $300. Had a lot of holster wear on the blue and right stock was worn. The front left side of the trigger guard was worn down excessively too. Looked as though someone had purposely filed it down a mite. When I pointed it out to the dealer, he dropped his asking price to $200. I honestly believe he didn't realized how bad it was. He opined that it made have been from a lot of use in those type of police service holsters that pivot to allow the officer to sit while wearing the holster.
I couldn't resist and it came home with me. Cleaned it up and it turned out to be an excellent shooter.
Dealer also had a dirty 5" nickel 10-5 on the same table for $300. Finish was cloudy but it would have cleaned up with a bit of Mothers Mag. Didn't have enough funds to get both so it stayed there.
I got lucky. Have patience and you should be able to find a nice shooter for around $350.

John

Well,I like gun shows. Gives me a chance to look at a LOT of guns (I like that too),even if it's something I have no intention of buying. If I see what I think is a fair price on a gun,all the better. And if I see a gun that I really want,a hundred bucks or so ain't gonna stop me from buying it. How much time and effort will you spend looking for another? I would rather have the gun now and enjoy it rather than spend the time and money involved looking for another one that is a little (yes,$100 is a little) cheaper. Apparently, there's a LOT of folks here who are living in the past.

It wasn't all that long ago (6-8yrs.) that I was buying M-10s, M15s and M65s in 85% or better condition for $300-$425. now they are pricing them in the $450-$550 range. that to me is a large mark up in a short time frame.

"Shooter grade" may cover a range. I recently ( as in since the first of the year) bought an obviously used model 10 from circa 1961 for $339, and a 5 inch model 10 from 1969 or 70 for $349. Finish wear on both, but very original, save different grips on the '61 gun.

That's roughly a 25% increase in 8 years . Bought a new truck in the last 8 years? They go up about 8%-10% a YEAR! How about a gallon of milk or a pound of rib-eye? I usually buy guns that are 95%,or better. I EXPECT them to be higher priced than they were 6-8 years ago (fwiw, that IS in the past).

I picked up a 15-2 with TH and TT on Gunbroker last month for $290. Finish had holster wear and is at about 80%. It had diamond targets on it but the left one had a piece missing, the right one was in fair shape. I saw all of this in the pics before I bid. Cost $55 dollars for shipping and transfer fee, so it ended up at $345 in my hand. When I got it the barrel looked like new inside and the timing and lockup were perfect. It's a good shooter grade gun, that's what I was looking for and that's what I got.

2 weeks ago I saw a very nice 15, only slight muzzle blue loss on the bbls edge bring 550. They guy that had the table bought it. On the table next to him there was a 10-5(?) unmarked, looked new, no box. I asked, 450? He said almost. I did not want it and went no further.

I would be ashamed to admit how long it took me to learn
the simple lesson that many guns displayed at gun shows
are not actually for sale. Many guys that set up tables at
shows enjoy the snob status they have from owning fine
firearms of whatever type or brand. Anybody can have plain
old money and once their fine firearm has been sold they
can't justify sitting behind their table reading a book, barely
interested in the commonfolk passing by. I tried my best to
buy a Winchester mod 62 pump from a guy who often has
nice guns at local shows one day. Finally he told me that he
had owned the gun for over 25 yrs and only brought it to the
show to see what kind of offers it would get. I wanted to
punch him right in the mouth. But that wouldn't have been
in my best interest. After that show i just walked by his
tables without even looking.

these are USED guns not new. all I am saying that some of the sellers see what someone "over" paid and now they think that is the going price. nothing against the seller for getting the most that he can, it just that i'm not going to pay $1000 for a $500 gun....

You don't say what your location is but the prices you
mention seem excessive period. I suggest you start looking
at online auction sites like GB. There are good buys to be
had occasionally if you are patient. Some guns get listed
without any hype and only a few pics and just kinda fall through the cracks and go fairly cheap. Be ready to catch
them when that happens.

I really enjoy going to gun shows! Sure there is a lot of overpriced junk. But here and there are some deals to be had. In Sept. at the local show, I bought a 13-2 for $475, OTD. No box or extras. VERY low round count. According to seller less than a box. Looks it. Shoots like a dream. I did not even know I wanted 1. Glad I did. It helps to be flexible. (within reason)
So far this year, I have bought 2 Model 10's. 1st, a 10-6, PPC gun, with 8&3/8" barrel. $505 & shipping.
Next, a 10-5, 2" R.B. It was $329 shipped. Should pick it up at my FFL Tuesday. Bob

I even found the ammo priced above average years ago so I stopped going to gun shows.
