I wasn't really looking to buy
I was sort of in the market for a nice M10-5 shooter, I have a M10-11 4" HB RB ex Australian Police that I picked up last year but I really wanted a pencil barrel, classic M10. I am rebuilding my S&W section of the collection that was depleted during the Great Divorce Collection sell off.
I was on a sellers site on GunBroker a week and a half ago that specializes in police trade in and confiscated firearms, some times he will have a S&W revolver, he usually will have autos. He had one Smith, a M10-5. As usual he only shows two pictures, left side and right side. The gun is described as clean, serial number puts it in 1966. Slight holster wear, but the pictures are not that great.
Opening bid at $149, no reserve. This seller is a high volume seller so I put a bid on it and won. I had the high bid for the next four days when in the last 15 minutes somebody out bid me. I raised my max by $30 and was high bid again. The guy chased my bid and raised the price by $10. I won at $317, still not bad for todays prices, with shipping and transfer I am in it for under $375. I picked it up today, it is a nice, very clean, hardly shot M10-5. The grips match and are original.
I will look in on that sellers sight from time to time to see what he has in the future!

AGREED!! Just a little TLC, especially the medallions. A beautiful example of the quintessential pistol. Nice catch.

The only 10s I have are a 2" 10-5 and a 4" 10-6 that both think they are model 14s.
Great shooting revolvers.
Nice acquisition.

That's a really good price these days for one in that condition. To me the 10-5 has always been the epitome of the post-war K frame 38's, even the ones from the late 1940's and 1950's (I do have them all). I grew up with a 10-5 in high school and college. There's just something about the perfect feel of the -5.

That's just like the 32 Hand Ejector (post war) (Pre Mod 31) that leaped out of a dealers table and into my pocket yesterday at a gun show. The closer I look the less it shows any firing, but a couple minor little dings from being carried and handled for some time. Roy says it left home in 1957, just before Model numbers were starting to be applied.

I got my 10-10 on budsguns for about the same price sight unseen. Better believe I had my fingers crossed for a tapered barrel. Solid buy.

Need some help
Wasn't looking to buy , but came across a nice S & W model 36 Chief Special. It has three screws, and a pined barrel, SN# 59J40, very unique with the J in the middle can any expert out there give me an idea of what year it was manufactured and why the J in the SN# reflects.
Thank you USMarine64.
