Any S or N in front of those numbers? Could be from around 1954-1955 or 1973 depending on what letter is before your numbers. Ship date, not date of manufacture...

Also, when you open the cylinder, as if to load or unload it, you should be able to see the model number - dash number on the frame (example "MOD 28-2"). The absence of such a marking indicates it was made before model numbers in 1957.

In 1969 they changed to an "N" serial prefix.

Make sure you're pulling the number off the bottom of the grip frame.

1954-55 per SCS&W. My guess is 1955.

WOW! That was worth the wait. Nice early HP 357. Good snag. Best.

I agree with Wetdog that it is probably shipped in late '54 or early '55. For that time period, it should not have any model number stamped on the yoke. The markings will be assembly numbers that were put on by the factory to assist in production. A early mid-'50s Highway Patrolman is only model name marked on the right side of the barrel. If you see a "MOD 28" (called a "no dash") on the gun, there is a discrepancy somewhere.

You did not mention if it was 4, or 6". Since you did not post a picture, I will. My S serial # 2011xx, from 1960. The Herrett stocks feel good on it, but have some factory target stocks for it. Bob

It has a 6 inch barrel. I am looking to add an early model 27 to my n frame collection.

Is this true? I have a 4" 28-2 serial numbered S333xxx that I thought was from 1970.
