Default Model 36 Seriel number question

So a friend of mine has been telling me for months he wanted me to have a look at a gun he received from his Grandfathers estate and he finally brought it in today. Turns out it's a model 36 no dash with a little surface rust on the grip back strap. Other than that it looks as if it has spent it's life in a holster in a drawer. The grip checkering is still crisp as is the hammer spur and trigger serrations. So after talking with him for a few minutes about it he tells me he wants to sell it and well now I have another J-Frame. Anyway the serial number is 688xxx so that would date it to the mid sixties?

Yes, I think so - mid to late 60s. 1962 started at 295000, 1969 at 786544. SCSW provides no further info between those dates.
