Ammo for K22
I have a K 22, 1948 vintage model. Is it safe to shoot CCI, 1260 FPS ammo in this gun, or do I need to shoot std velocity ammo? Thanks, Keener
PS: I might have put this under the wrong catagory...sorry

Shoot it. The K-22 will eat pretty much anything you can fit into it.

I would assume it would handle anything from 22 shorts to the hottest hyper velocity stuff out there. It is a K-frame designed for 38 special and higher pressures.
I have one on the way and will be trying out various ammo types in the near future. I'm guessing the plain old standard velocity/target stuff will do the best just like the other 22's I have.

I see nothing unsafe for you. Just be aware that some brands (often Remington) has soft brass that sometimes gets sticky in the cylinders. If you're shooting Remingtons, be prepared for it to misfire way too often. I used to love the stuff, but now it has misbehaved so often over recent years I hate it.
With the prolonged ammo shortage we've had, the shooter generally is reduced to just buying what he can find. In the past we'd buy a box or two of each brands, then go shooting. The ammo that behaved the best was the one to buy, and in quantity. Just for fun, my current favorites are Federal and CCI. I'm too poor and cheap to blow money on Eley.

Sticky chamber remedy:
Take Q-tips and a small bottle of solvent. When cases stick, clean 'em out with a solvent soaked Q-tip.
A buddy of mine "invented" the item below:
Glue a nickel to an empty .380 case. Works great!

I did shoot some WINCHESTER brand, 1300 FPS 22 ammo yesterday. It did not eject well from my Walther PP 22, my Winchester 72A, and I had some problems with it in the K 22 also. Not good ammo in my opinion, but it was there so I bought it. Keener

You can shoot any 22 available in a K22, but will normally obtain the best accuracy with the Standard velocity rounds by a well known maker. If you have "sticky" ejection problems, it is very common with S&W .22's. Polishing the insides of the chambers, keeping them clean every few cylinderfuls, or if you have what many find a problem, having the chambers reamed out with a SAAMI standard 22LR chamber reamer. S&W chambers are very often undersized.

Oh my. If I were a wise guy…
Put the empty case over the ejector rod. Press down on the nickel with your thumb. Makes for a much less painful contact area with the finger's tip when pushing on an ejector rod connected to sticky .22 cases.

As has been stated if it will fit it will shoot but I have found I get the best accuracy with plain old standard velocity ammo. In fact Federal bulk box seems to do just as good as the highest price match stuff. The key is try different brands until you find one your Smith likes and buy as much as you can find.

I keep a small rod and bore brush in the range bag, when they get a bit sticky a few pass's through each chamber smooths it right back up.
