I will start with the bad news. No pictures. Sorry but I haven't taken any and even if I did I would have to have help posting them.
I was in the new local gun shop about a week ago. On the bottom shelf of the used pistol case there was a Model 15-4. 88K # range,(1980) with service stocks that showed a little damage from its years hanging on a Sam Brown belt serving and protecting the citizenry. Typical of guns of this type it showed holster wear and a turn ring. a few small rust spots that I think will clean up. I would call it a 80-85% gun.(If I was selling I would probably call it 85-90%) Checked it out and it passed my basic check, good lock up, no push off, no bulges in barrel or cylinder. Gun was priced at $400. which is good for this part of the country. I really don't need another K frame. I have a nice 15-2 and a 67 no dash and a gob of others in various configurations. Anyway, I took a pass. I figured that it would only last a couple of days and someone would own a nice shooter.
10 days go by and I am, again, making the rounds of the shops. The lonely Model 15 is still on the self. The shop owner is taking care of another customer but hands me the 15 to look at. Soon it is just the owner, me and the 15. I am told that is on consignment. We than have a discussion on the dynamics of consigned sales. I say that I am interested and that I am prepared to pay cash. Cash is good! Both for the shop (no credit card fees) and for the consignor. I say that: "In my experience, most people have an asking price but will usually take less and is that the case with this unit". The owner replies "Yes" and shoots me a price. Done Deal! I am out the door for well under the original asking price. Another K gun added to the herd.
A quick check, when I get it home, reveals the grips are numbered but not to the gun. mainspring has been replaced with a Wolff (probably explains the nice DA pull) Probably off to a shooting spot, later today, to see if it shoots as good as it looks.
No buyer's remorse, except for the fact that I spent some of my vacation money and will end up with more credit card usage when I go fishing in May.
Sorry for the ramble but those of you who read my posts know that I have a tendency to be a little wordy. GB
