Default Model 29-2 Sights

I am looking to purchase a nickel finish 6” or 6 ½” barrel Model 29-2 in the near future and I am trying to educate myself on the different aspects of the gun. The one thing I am having trouble finding detailed information about are the different variations of sights, both front and back that came on them. Can anyone tell me what were the different styles and types of sights used? And is there anything specific I should look for?

Thanks

AFAIK all 29-2s came with ramp front sights with red inserts and white outline rear sights. Anything other than this from the factory would have been by special order. I have seen one 29-2 that had SO sights and it was a green insert rather than red. It would be very unusual to encounter a 29-2 with any sights other than RR front and WO rear.

Up through the mid-60s, the red ramp on a ramp base on 29-2s finished in nickel were blued, after that they were finished in nickel. That is about the only variation for the 29-2.

Thanks guys for the info. I was reading somewhere that the rear sights came in both checkered and grooved. I’m not quite sure what they were talking about.

Again, AFAIK the only models with checkering on the top of the gun was the Registered Magnum and its descendants. The 44 Magnums never came with this feature.
