Default Clinder stuck

I have a Model 29 and like an idiot I assembled it absent mindedly and forgot to insert the Center Pin and Center Pin Spring. After closing the cylinder I was unable to get it to open. I believe the extractor assembly is preventing it from opening. I am not sure how to pop it out without damaging anything. Any suggestions?

The only part left that is holding the cylinder in the gun is the front locking bolt. It is spring loaded, and it's tip will be down inside the end of the extractor rod when the cylinder is closed.

A small screwdriver{like for glasses} can be carefully used to push back the locking bolt.

I have used the following procedure. Just please be gentle.
1. see if you can slide a shim in between the front end of the ejector rod head and the locking bolt, from left to right. There is a reason.
2. The end of the locking bolt will peek out of the front of the lug.
3. gently grasp with a set of needle nose pliers and pull.
4. open cyl. gently.
Just take your time and be gentle. Did one for a friend of mine yesterday. Best

Just for grins, I tried to insert a shim between the tip of the front locking bolt and the extractor rod on a Model 64. Couldn't do it because as armorer said, the bolt is inside the extractor rod recess There isn't enough of the bolt protruding from the front to get a grip on it with a tool, although I have other Smiths where I think gmborkovic's suggestion will work because there is more of the bolt protruding. Good luck!

The locking bolt is angled on the left side. I have had great luck, of course not all locking bolts are created the same. Here is another idea: strip the gun. Slide a thin rod from rear to front thru the rear hole in the receiver. Would that work? Dont know, never tried it. My old stripped Mod-10 is in a box out in the shop. I may try it later. Or, go buy a new gun.

Why did you take down the cylinder so far?
