I can't honestly say as I would not have a clue because of the current market and extremely high prices you see on GB. I would go up to GB and do a search on completed auctions for the Model 27 with 6 inch barrel and that would give you a good idea of current value. If this is a 27-2 than you would need to include that in your search parameters.

If condition is as described, with S prefix, I'd start around $1500+.

There's a bit more info we'd need. Nickel or blued? Is it model-numbered (Model 27)? Factory letter confirming configuration? Do the grips number to the gun; failing that, are they period-correct? Magnas, targets, Cokes or custom grips? Pictures would help as well. Lacking the above, the range will be roughly $1500-2K+ in most areas, unless you're in CA, where it would fetch a higher price. Nickel and number matched grips would raise value; Cokes would raise value; if it matches the factory letter, that would also raise the market value. There are several rare factors (factory custom grips, owner provenance) that would bear on value as well. If you can post pictures, you'll get a closer estimate. Good luck!

C'mon man! Give us some info. Pictures, nickel, blue? Original box, grips numbered the gun. These are very important factors to give you answers to what you are requesting.
I re-read your post and see that you do not have box and papers. Sorry.

IMO its kinda like saying "I have a clean white Corvette made between 1953 and 1967...., whats it worth ?"
Need clear well lit pics, serial, dash revision and more pics to establish value.

Short answer to your question about value: It depends.
Longer answer: Assuming original blue finish and original grips roughly $1400 in a Gun Broker auction
Even Longer answer: Being an S prefix dates it 1950 or later and having the fifth screw dates it to earlier than 1956 so unless it's an anomaly it is not a model number gun (i.e. not a Model 27). It would be a ".357 Magnum" (sometimes referred to as a pre-model 27). In my neck of the woods you would be unlikely to find this or something like it locally so an on-line buying source is where many people would have to shop for a 5 screw S&W .357 Magnum. It seems reasonable to get a ballpark estimate of approximate value from an on-line source realizing it would bring significantly less at a pawn shop and likely bring increasingly more as you go from a lgs (local gun store), to a face to face sale / gun show sale, to the most at an on-line auction. Assuming yours has a blue finish and original grips similar ones have sold recently on Gun Broker with a box for $2000 - $2200. Three examples, in excellent condition, without boxes brought about $1400 each. At the low end a similar one in excellent, but not flawless, original condition sold for $1100.

If its truly a "5 screw" highly doubt its a "Model 27" as model marking began in the 4 screw era ...

The 6" bbl is the least desirable barrel length, and that affects price. I believe fair money on a clean 6" without the box is somewhere around $1K.

Beat me. I was going to note the 6" is less sought after that 3.5 and 5" lengths and prices run lower. Collector condition gun but no box. Bummer.
Value on almost any gun is so subjective all anyone can do is make a wild guess.

Welcome to the FORUM! Bottom line is that is a good Smith to have regardless. If you need a close value, pictures are a must. Are you just trying to value it, or sell it? Bob
