Nice gun but not my choice for home protection, have you considered how many walls it would go through?

None with the proper round selection and shot placement on the Perp.....

Thanks, it is a nice gun.

That's ok if it goes thru the walls I live in the country I have no neighbors. And I'm well aware of my surroundings I just don't start shooting without knowing what's down range.

The long barrel makes it more awkward and easier to twist out of your hand.

What are you defending against: a grizzly bear?

That said, I occasionally used a M-29 with .44 Magnum ammo for protection. I had it with me in a Houston motel one night when I thought I'd have to use it on a man trying to get in my window. I was going to let him enter and then kill him, hopefully without the bullet penetrating the wall.

It's well that I waited to assess the situation, for he turned out to be a drunk whose wife found him and recovered him before he finished opening the window and entering.

The .44 was the only gun I had, and I found myself wishing for a Colt .45 auto in those tense moments. But that M-29 was very accurate and effective. I had little doubt that I could engage the target from cover and probably get him before he got me.

But that incident led me to think more about recoil, blast, and overpenetration and when I got home, I don't think I used the big .44 in that role again. My gun had a 6.5-inch barrel, the longest I'll buy, apart from the Ruger Super Blackhawk or Colt SAA .45 with 7.5-inch, as a specialty item.

I'll post a range report after the weekend, but a friend of mine has one, I shot it last year at 50 yards one handed and was hitting a steel 6" target. Ever since then I wanted one. I was the only one that hit that 6" steel target @ 50 yards that day (one handed). Any thing closer......watch out.

I do carry a S&W 9mm on me all the time. The 44 is only for home. Wouldn't shoot it in a populated area for defense only my 9 in that situation.

Can't say that would be my first choice as a house gun (a bit long for CQB) but either of the Glaser loads in .44 Special would be formidable and quite easily controlled in that gun.

Default Why?

Why do you feel your 9mm would not be a great home defense weapon? I can't see any advantage the magnum would have. The 44mag is one of my favorites, but not in that role. In any case, I hope you enjoy your 29!

Will everyone who has had to fire a weapon in a home defense scenario and over penatration was avoided or caused by an incorrect round please raise your hand. I did have blood work today, and I am concerned about elevated LDL.

Someday I will own a 44mag. And I just might keep it on my nightstand. I will say that my primary home defense weapons - Glock 19 and a 300blk SBR are superessed. 44 mag? Ouchie.
