Default Value question on S&W Mod 60 No Dash

Hi Guys, I am new to your forum, but Ive learned a lot from reading all the Posts.
My question is the value of my: S&W Chief Special Mod 60 .38 Special. I bought it New...at Clark Bros. in Warrenton Va.
I cant remember if it was like 1987 or 1990. It is a pinned barrel no dash in Stainless.
The unique thing about mine, and Ive have seen a bunch on gunbroker.com but not quite as complete as mine.

Mine is unfired, new in the box, and I even have the serial numbered box, the wax paper it was wrapped in, the cardboard it sat in with the trigger plug. The serial number is: ANE2123. I hope to post some photos tomm. I figured you collectors who could appreciate a 1 owner collector quality piece would be best be able to tell me what you think its worth. Thanks..very much.

With an ANE serial number it was probably 1987. It should NOT have a pinned barrel. Those went away in c. 1980, when the serial numbers still had an R prefix followed by six digits.
All Model 60 revolvers were made of stainless steel. The carbon steel equivalent was the Model 36.
Nice that yours is still ANIB. I'm not sure what it would bring these days, but I'd think it would be close to about $600. Yours should have the folding box, rather than the older two piece type.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, it is a ANE prefix. Any chance of someone looking up the date of manufacture. It sure Does- Have the pinned barrel. I'm just not sure it was in 1987 I bought it. I will call S&W to see what they say. Any other info is much appreciated. Gonna try and get a photo or it up today. Thanks...Bob

That would be great. I'd like to see a pinned barrel on a Model 60 with that high a serial number (very likely 1987). I'm not doubting your word but this is quite unusual. A picture would be wonderful!

With the serial number you've given, JP@AK is correct that the [U]shipping[U]date is probably 1987. There is no database that lists the date of manufacture but you can assume it was within the 1987 time frame give or take a year.

I have a similar Model 60. Serial # on mine is R621XX, which dates to 1971-1972. It does have the pinned barrel, small two piece box with paperwork as you describe. Appears unfired after the factory test. The original hang tag is included and give the price at $289. I paid $600 for it about a year ago which I thought was a fair price at the time. Yours is probably worth about that as JP@AK says.

As noted above, a three letter SN prefix revolver with a pinned barrel would be most unusual. Most I have seen were early to mid-'80s N frame special runs. "Never say never" was a phrase coined by the S & W factory regarding odd and unexpected variations - looking forward to the photos.

Default I stand corrected! Thanks Gentlemen!

Gentlemen, I was wrong. I went to my safe today and took it out for some photos. Been awhile since I looked. You are correct...
it appears to have a Pressed in barrel. I was looking at the Pin that holds the Ejector rod in. So thanks for all the great input. I guess, me memory is not what it used to be.

That clears that up!

But the barrel isn't "pressed in." It is still threaded. The pin, while it seemed to be a good idea in 1899, was determined to be superfluous and therefore was eliminated as a cost-saving measure.

The very end of the R series serialed guns wasn't pinned either. They discontinued pinning barrels shortly before they went to the triple alpha numberic serial number system.
