S&W .357 Model 66-1
I am new to the forum, and although I grew up in rural Oklahoma with a lot of guns in the house, it's only recently that I've renewed my interest in handguns as I would like to get my LTC.
My brother was in law enforcement for 20+ years, and actually carried this 66-1 back in the late 80's. Funny story - he owed me money for a car in the 90's, and instead of repaying me in cash he gave me this gun. At the time, I wasn't happy about the swap. But I'm sure the $500 he owed me back then would be long gone by now so I'm glad I've got the gun instead.
It hasn't been shot since the mid-90's. Still seems to be in good shape but again, I'm not the resident gun-expert.
Somebody with much more knowledge would know for sure, but I'm positive he told me that he swapped out the grips when he was carrying it every day at work.
The s/n is evident in one of the pics: 98K9360.
Anyway, no other reason for this post than to bring my S&W out of storage and share the pics.
Happy trails!

Looks great by the pictures. I edc a 66-4 and love it.
Now a days $500 would be a good price on it.
If you're asking if it's in firing shape, it looks good but hard to say by the pictures. Don't see an issue but hard to say. If you're worried but want to try it, use .38 special first. And move up to .357. Welcome to the forum from Ga.

Nice looking revolver and I would shoot it with the rubber grips on it first.
The instructions for checking out a revolver are on this website somewhere but, I can't get you there. I'm sure it is easy to find! Welcome here !

66-1
Nice revolver, 2 1/2 inch 66-1 go for a premium when you can find them here in north Texas. I'm wondering if this is a transition piece, recessed cylinder but without the pinned barrel. You definitely came out on top besting your bother in the long run

Thanks partner! Yeah, that's the other gun my bro gave me about 10 years ago - a .38 special and I really like it. I'm taking the LTC in 2 weeks and will qualify with the M&P Shield that I bought today...but I'll prob carry that Colt every now 'n then just because I like it so much.

That's a nice gun. Your $500 "investment" already has some nice return (that is, if you cash in). Enjoy it more.

Welcom to the forum.
Nice gun. Did your brother work plain clothes? Most duty guns fpr uniformed officers have four-inch barrels.

Nice catch. The M66 dash numbers were a bit behind the M19, but both eliminated the pinned barrel and recessed cylinder in 1982 (M19-5, M66-2). Would be nice to see where the SN# for that gun falls.
I once had a M66-1, bought it in 1979 and sold it around 2005. Just found a nice M19-3 a few months ago to replace it.

While I'm not a stainless steel fan, I sure do like the M66 snubs. They bring a significant premium over the ones with the longer barrel. All the really nice M19/M66 snubs I'm seeing out lately are starting to get dangerously close to $1K. I would say you really got one of the better guns out there in that trade. The potential future value of the gun is high.

Very nice piece. It's a late 66-1, transitional model. Not pinned, but recessed. Most likely shipped Oct/Nov time frame 1981.

Welcome to the FORUM! Your investment gained more in value than the bank would have given you in interest. AND, if he paid you the $500, what would you have blown it on? Enjoy it! Bob
