Ok all you box masters. I have this Chief Special blue box. It has a two line border, instead of a one line with a two line address. Based on the serial number, 150,221, it falls between a starburst and the solid line border. Anybody have any history on this box. Never seen one before and I've looked at a lot of blue boxes. Foreign sales maybe??? It's hard to see from the thumb print.
I have a two-line box that differs slightly from yours. Framed with two lines but has a square snowflake in each corner. Two-line address in the lower right corner parallel with the base lines - not on the bias like yours. S&W logo in upper left corner with three diagonal "rays" emanating from about the 3:30 position on the logo to three points on the top of the address (beginning, middle, end).
The box dates to the mid-50's and had my .22/.32 Kit Gun in it. The serial number of the Kit Gun is 12XXX.
Yes, that is what they call a starburst or sunburst box. It was used after the red ones. After that it was the solid border box, with different writing configurations.. This one is in the middle I"m assuming.
To add interest I have seen eight different COMMON blue boxes so far.
3 different sunburst boxes, 1 double border as above, three styles of solid border one with a writing going from lower left to upper right. ("Smith and Wesson 9mm automatic") a solid border with two line address, a solid border with three line address, and a hash border, three line address. I sure there are plenty of special event boxes... So if you know of any others I've miss provide a pic....
