Default My U.S.A.F ultimate resting place

I have to first say thank you to forum member jcelect for his suggestion that the current S&W presentation cases were very nice. After buying a case from him for my 29-2 I called S&W for the specs on the various ones on the website (wood vs glass top) and size's for what I wanted to do.

So here it is. My shadow box to myself if you well. I'm very happy with how it all came out. Just wanted to share my photos. Thanks

Cory

PS please disregard my complete lack of photo taking ability. I ran out of talent when I selected the camera app.

Nice airplane although I've never had the chance to work with them. Heck, I've never even been in one on static display. Need to correct that someday.

Very nice job, Rich, both on the case and your career. You've definitely been there and done that, as they say. Thank you for your long and well done service.

Perchance was the pistol one you carried in service?

ameridaddy,

I wish I could say that I carried the Model 15. I've been stuck with the M9 since I started flying

Very nice cased Smith, thanks for sharing.

Speaking of the USAF , the other night in the wee hours I stepped outside to look at the stars.
Crystal clear night, no wind, very quite.
I live on a hill about 70 miles from several military bases, out in the sticks.
I notice a string of red blinking lights in the sky ( is this my 1st ufo moment ? ).
No it's 10 big azz planes flying low and quite heading west.
There are 2 blinking red lights on fuselage one on the nose and one on top of stabilizer, no green and red wing tip lights.
They pass only a few miles south of me and are very , very quite making almost no noise.
I could somewhat make out the silhouette with the milky way back lighting them as they passes by.
Very cool to see.
Those guys are sneaky when they want to be!

In the movie We Were Soldiers (2002) - IMDb

There is a scene where the helicopter pilot gets pissed off at some other guy making stupid comments and he pulls what looks like a Model 15 from a chest holster.

I was very impressed that they had him pull a revolver and not a 1911, and that he had a chest holster as a pilot would have and not a belt holster. Nice attention to detail overall in this movie.

Found the quote for this scene on IMDB (Crandall is also a helicopter pilot):

Quote:
Medevac Pilot: Crandall! You led my men into a hot LZ!
Crandall: Yeah, somebody had to fly out the wounded...
Medevac Pilot: No, no, don't you play hotshot with me! Now, you know the rules. You suckered us in there. You ever do it again, I'm gonna have you busted!
[shoves Crandall]
Crandall: [pulls out his revolver] You've got the balls to face me but not enough balls to face the enemy?
Capt. Ed 'Too Tall' Freeman: Hey! Hey, hey, hey! Whoa!
[seperates the two and maintains the distance]
Crandall: If I ever see you again, I'll kill you! That's right...
Medevac Pilot: [walks off in silence]
Capt. Ed 'Too Tall' Freeman: Hey... what a day, huh?
Crandall: Tomorrow will get worse. If they make it to tomorrow.

Cory, thank you for your service!! And very nice job on the case!!

Fine display, splendid revolver, and quite a load of what used to be called "fruit salad"--don't know what they call the ribbons now.

Nice job all the way around.

Beautiful job, I retired in 85 after 30 and spent a good part of my second and third enlistments as a Small Arms Technician/Supervisor. I'd love to have an AF Mod 15 for my collection but they're very hard to find. Thanks for your service, I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did mine.

bgrafsr,

I'm still debating on if I want to do a brass plaque like you did. My wife likes the plate, I might do something with my dates of service. Still thinking.

I like your shadow box a lot. Here's mine: The brass plaque at the bottom has my name, United States Air Force, and dates of service. To the left is an Air Police Shield and to the right is my Rank, A1C.

That looks great. That falls into the category of less is more, and I really like it.

One retirement I was running, the shadow box he wanted was very busy IMO. That was what he wanted so that's what you do & I get that. But I think more like you in this case. Thanks for sharing that.
