Default Model 35 value

Any help with the value of a model 35 would be appreciated. I've found a 1972 model that is described as 98% with slight cylinder and muzzle wear. Since the wear is pretty visible in the pictures I'm not sure that I would consider it 98%, but then I'm not qualified to grade a gun. The asking price is $1299 which seems high to me. I saw a model 35 on the Simpson Ltd website that sold recently for $1150 that had maybe had just a little less wear. I'm not sure if the model 35 is rare, but it seems like they are hard to come by.

Take a look at the completed auctions over on GunBroker...mint in the box just sold for a $1000 a few weeks ago. Those that are asking more, the guns just sit there...

Yours sounds like a $800-850 gun...

I haven't seen one for sale around here at any price for a good while. My guess is it would be $900 - $1000. $1300 in that condition, no box, is high.

I think $1299 is several hundred too high for one as described. On the other hand, I've been hoping to buy one for the past several years and the few I've seen were all "too high." Passed on a couple nice ones, one for about $800 and another for $900. One of these days I'll just have to pay "too much" I guess. Good luck.

I do like the looks of a Mod 35, that long barreled J frame.

I've been around awhile & I don't see them often at gunshows.
But ...
I did find one at a little 75 table show last year. This one cost me a Colt Agent and $200 boot.

The Model 35 is one of the few guns I want that has managed to elude me. The very few times I've run across one, I didn't have the money. When I had the money and went looking, none could be found.
I think that price is way too high. The real questions are how often do you see one for sale and how bad do you want it?

Not hard to come by around my place.

I would be hesitant, based on your description, to stretch that far. They are 'fun' guns and yes you will find them hard to come by.
Prices are escalating at a somewhat unusual rate. People are buying some of these 'hard to come by' guns knowing that the hunt and locating another may be problematic if they really would like to own one.
I know what I paid for mine, but, I didn't acquire all these overnight.
Since I own these I am not in the market for a lesser condition gun, (i.e., those with wear and without the complete package).

I know that I have muddled your thinking process with my logic.
Good luck.

bdGreen

I have one candidate for a nickel job. It is brand new in the box, but, it has a factory defect in the frame behind the trigger guard. Thought about getting it nickeled 'cause the cool factor would be high on that one.

The defect is merely a tiny void of metal. How it left the factory that way is beyond my comprehension. I would have the void filled with the EDM process and then nickel the gun. Might have some engraving done also. Will have to engage Bob R. for the right people.
I have one grand daughter and all that I do for this gun will be for her.

Or, since I am close to Dallas I can just take it down to the local Chromeria and have a triple plate job done.

Well bdGreen you've given me hope that there's nice ones out there if you know where to look. The hunt is on.

I'm finding the price for a mint pristine M-35 is now at $1,800 nice ones are at $1,100- $1,200 they are not $800-$1,000 guns anymore. Maybe if we all put some pressure on S&W they'd make a return classic? This week opted for a like new M-34 paid $717.00 did ok considering.
