Default How have the S & W boxes changed over the years?

When did Smith and Wesson start using the blue boxes that I see most often? I have seen some wooden boxes that I'm guessing were used for special editions. Would a model 10 no dash been shipped in a blue box or was some other type of box used back in the early 1960s? I hope some of you guys will post some pictures of the boxes your guns came in.

1954 with the Blue two-piece starburst or Sun-ray box. In 1997 they went to blue plastic. Edition 3 of the SCSW has a great run down. I'm sure Edition 4 will update.

From '57 to '66 they used a blue two-piece S&W box thought to be installed as part of the advent of the Model numbering. During this period boxes used for nickle guns were gray in color but otherwise identical.

The S&W book is helpful on this subject but I keep hoping one of our experts will do a definitive article on this subject.
