Tried a Cowboy load in 41 mag..
Shot some of this today.
Burns pretty clean. Lower recoil.
Not sure about FPS. Not bad plinking ammo.

I've shot some of their 44 cowboy ammo in a different box. Worked fine for me also. My box spec'd out at 240 grains@1140 fps according to the HSM website.

I don't do cowboy, but thought they limited their velocities to 1000 f/s or less. Unless HSM is just using the label as showing less than max velocities.

I have loaded 850-900 fps, lead bullet, Field loads for my .41 and .44 mags, for years. They do 95% of what I need short of when I carry in bear country.

The cowboy loads I have fired in the 41 mag were rated at 800fps.

Nice that there are at least a couple of companies that load a target velocity round for Magnum cartridges. It is too bad they are more widely available...

Georgous 57 and I would like to try the hsm cowboy stuff. I shoot some of the full power stuff and a lighter plinking load would be nice to have too!

Superman posted sometime back that 8 grs. of Unique will do probably 90% of what needs doing with a 210 gr bullet . It's a little more than just a target load but very nice mid range load . I have to agree with him .
For a pure target load I have found that 4.5 grains of Bullseye is real nice using a 210-220 grain cast bullet . That load came from Elmer Keiths book , " Six Guns " .
I have switched to 8.5 of WSF (Winchester Super Field ) for my day to day carry load only because I couldn't find unique for the past 5yrs. but I could find WSF . Those 2 loads work for me .

I don't think the low velocity is REQUIRED...
I don't think the low velocity is a requirement, but in that type of competition the low recoil enables fast follow up shots.

Shot a customized 58 yesterday in an IDPA shoot...used the 8.0 grains of Unique with a 210 Berry's plated bullet. No smoke and very quick to reload. Out of four stages I had one round out of the A-Zone... I'm not fast but I can hit what I aim at with that gun...
From a 4" barrel, I consider 1000-1200 fps as a Mid-Range load. The original Police loading was a 210 at 950+- from a 4". That is exactly what 8.0 grains of Unique will run a 210. Most of the full power 210s run in the mid to upper 1200s.
Lately I have been somewhat off-track with reloading .41s. I had a bunch of powder like 2400 and Blue Dot and a bunch of different weight cast bullets. So rather than waste Unique I loaded up a bunch of mid-range loads with bullets from 169-250 grains. Have yet to find an inaccurate load for a .41...
If you are looking for target velocity rounds, Reed's Ammo has .41 Special available.
