what can anyone tell me about this gun its a Model 19-3, i know its only a photo but you people are good with judging values from photos, lol. its for sale at a local gunshop for $650, does it seem worth it to you?

I'd pay $650 for it comfortably. That's about as much as we can tell you without knowing the serial number. Good luck!

Nice looking gun. It's pinned & recessed, that's a value booster. I cant tell if it's been refinished, a detriment to value. The stocks aren't right but replaceable.

Here's my price track on the model:

Smith & Wesson 19 2-1/2 inch barrel. Revolver in .357 Mag. Blue Book of Gun Values (36th Edition) indicates between $325 in 95% condition and $650 in 100% condition for this gun. I have 125 recorded prices for this model gun from $395 to $1055 over a period of 6 Yrs 1 Mos ending May 1, 2016. The average price as of that date was $618. No refurbs, no refinishes, regular sights. All represented as 95% or better. No distinction for engineering revision, if any, no special editions, no distinctions for box, papers, tools. Current or last MSRP is $457.

The last 10 prices I have for this model since 12/12/2015 range from $594 to $975 averaging $720.

If it has been refinished the ejector rod has been left out of the deal. Also, the knurled portion looks to be badly 'bubba' touched.

As a shooter it could be within the ballpark market value, as it looks great with the aftermarket stocks. As a collector piece... Not too sure about that.

Geography plays a role with the average market value of these as well. What can be very affordable in rural Texas might not be so in Baltimore or Chicago.

My bottom line... If you feel right about it, pick it up. Ya might not get another chance.

That's about the going rate, but that ejector rod might drop the value a bit. The 2 1/2 inch guns aren't often found at bargain prices lately.

The ejector rod is probably easily replaced, and the stocks appears to be modified (shortened) factory RB Targets.

That said, $650 would be at the upper "fair" range.

Davinman, if you want a collector grade M-19, I'd pass on that one. Yet if you want what appears to be nice + condition shooter grade revolver that one should work for you. I'd be tempted to make a CASH offer of $625.00, and hope for the best. Remember these are getting harder and harder to find, at any price.

Modified banana/targets were my carry grips... before I found Spegel boot grips...... or I'd still be using them.

Pinned and recessed a plus........

I'd open a bit lower .....$600...... nothing to lose......but if you want a 2 1/2 inch 19 I wouldn't leave without it over $50....... I haven't seen one in a LGS in a good while........ oh ya; I bought it a -4 .... IIRC for a little under $500....but that was then!!!!!!!

Not perfect condition but being P&R I would go $600-650 as well.

Patience pays, but don't lose something you want - that's helpful, huh? I decided I wanted the nickeled P&R 19's awhile back and started the hunt. I found the 4" first and had to drive to Tucson (had a job there anyway) and got it for $500 - as new with no stuff. Found the snub here in Phoenix, as new, no stuff, for $550 (want some combats for it though). Need the 6" still but will wait till I can find it for $500'ish. I'm old and you get more patient with age. Bottom line - It's just how quickly you want it. At $600 or so, you're not gonna get hurt. Just my two cents - and worth every penny.

now there is a dilemma, same gunshop now has this 1973 nickle 3" model 36 w/box and papers for $600. i cant afford both, maybe ill just look them over and flip a coin lmao.

No, buy both! This is never a problem. LOL

As nice as the J frames are, go with the M-19. The 2 1/2" M-19's are one of the finest all around S.D. revolvers ever produced. Not to big to tote, but feel like a real gun in your hand.

At $650 I would be very interested. If they went down to $600 it would be home in my safe and I would be showing pics of the new 19-3 I bought.

I'm not even close to the S&W expertise of posters on this site. My advice is if it's in good condition, buy it. I think that the 2.5" Model 19 is a beautiful gun. That's only part of the reason for my advice. I live in the most gun-hostile state in the country. If California could get away with it, politicians here would begin confiscation. I've lived in this state my entire life. California is one of the most beautiful states in the country. Politicians here have destroyed ability to enjoy this state's natural beauty with ugly laws. I hate to write this, but I'm now giving serious thought to moving to free state.

As you're probably aware, Governor Moon Beam very recently signed additional Second Amendment hostile legislation. It will only get worse.

Illinois isn't far behind CA's gun hostility. So if it's doable for you, I'd buy it.

BTW, I know a woman who owns one of the few remaining gun shops in So Cal. She's told me that she expects to get a 2.5" Model 19. If she does get it, she'll call me. I've told her that I'll buy it if its in good condition. I'm not holding my breath, but I am hopeful.

Did I mention that I think that the 2.5" Model 19 is a beautiful gun ;-)

Sorry Davin, pistol is now mine. Everything on it looks perfect except ejector rod. Locks up nice. Trigger feels smooth. Everything looked clean. Salesman looked like he wanted the pistol and tried to convince me to get the model 36

Even though I have no need for another P&R snub 19 (I have a couple already), I would have probably picked it up at that price also.

The model 36 is still there today if you want to pick it up. They also have a model 12-3 that looks to be in good condition as well. Lots of nice revolvers in the used section. They got a Python here as well. If only I had more money.

I suspect the ejector rod just lost it's blue from honest range use. It doesn't show holster wear. Perhaps you collectors would frown (understand) but the rod and grips do not need be replaced by us guys who want to shoot them.

What a great find. I swapped a Beretta Centurion for a Model 19-7. And although it's not pinned or recessed it is a nice looking gun and shoots straight. You did well.

congrats on a nice model 19 purchase, my a/c went out in my house, so it was a toss up of buy a nice revolver, or fix the a/c. you can tell what which one got the nod, lolol. enjoy that model 19, is sure looks like a winner.
