Default M66 No Dash value

I have a model 66 no dash made in 76 4"
Wanting to get a value on it. Has the target grips and RR front sight and trigger. I have box and all original paperwork and screwdriver. Wanting to get current values. It's in great shape I'd say 95% or more

Welcome to the Forum, Brown1212....

It's becoming very uncommon to see a no-dash Mod. 66 with all the original extras. Box, paperwork, tools, etc... Be sure to keep them all intact with the gun...

Viewing the picture you provided there are a few things that will have an impact on its value.

The majority of the early no-dash 66's had stainless rear sights without a red ramp which enhances their value today. Many were modified because some had a problem with the sight picture in bright light. Many were changed, mainly by law enforcement agencies, to a black rear sight assembly with a red-ramp installed on the front blade. It would be beneficial to have a serial number to consider an approximate date of manufacturer.

Your 66 does possess a trigger stop which was also frequently removed on many of the earlier guns. The black rear sight and the red-ramp became standard on the 66-1 guns. The trigger stop was eliminated on those later guns.

There are many "gray areas" when dating minor changes for all S&W firearms. The Mod.66 is certainly no exception.

I don't quote value for any firearm anymore sight unseen. There are just too many variables to provide an accurate quote. I would say if yours 66 is completely factory original it would be at the top end of the value range with everything it includes.

Below are pictures of a NIB, factory original 66 no-dash in the very early 2K range...

Hope this helps a bit....

It looks to be a very nice example from what I can see in your pic. In my area this gun would/ should bring $750-$850. Good luck.

At one end of the box top is a label. I suggest you take a clear photo of it and post it here. That might provide some clues as to how your example was originally equipped.

But I am never likely to get rid of mine at any price. They are just too nice of a gun.

Okay. Assuming there are 5 digits after the K, your revolver was serialized in 1978, making it a very late "no-dash." On the other hand, if there are only 4 digits after the K, it is from 1976, which seems more likely.

According to the label, it came from the factory with the red ramp front sight.

And even by '76, the rear sight would be blackened.

I believe it is safe to assume that everything on your Model 66 is as it came from the factory. Nice piece!

A 9K serial number is late enough (1975-1976) that the black rear sight assembly is correct, I believe.

I have a 2.5" 66 no-dash with 6k830xx serial #. It has a red ramp and black rear sight. Based on that, I would say not all no-dash have stainless rear sights. My serial # denotes 1974 vintage, the first year of the 2.5" barrel. Also have a 4" (#2k558xx) with stainless rear and no red ramp, vintage 1971.

IIRC the Black SS rear site appears around 1975 on the 4" ,
Have yet to see a snub 66 that is confirmed having shipped with a factory SS rear site in the "raw" yet.

The 2.5" snubs rear site unit is slightly longer so not interchangeable with the longer versions unless cut down in length.

I'll take a shot. $699 would be the asking price. Probably get close to asking if you find the right buyer.

I'm pretty sure I'm within $100.

One just sold here (Mississippi) last week, about the same condition for $599.00. I hesitated a few seconds, and the guy standing next to me said he would take it. I did not argue with him, because I was still debating on whether or not I really wanted another K frame.

Like TDC I have a reluctance to guesstimate value because there are a lot of variables and I am not an expert or professional firearm appraiser. On the other hand if a S&W Forum member asks a question in which my opinion might be helpful I'll answer out of courtesy. In this case I think the $599 price mentioned by will527 is too low. Clang444 and lonestar57 estimates of and $699 and $750-$850 are probably closer to an accurate value. I'd guesstimate $700-$750? You won't get nearly so much by selling outright to a LGS (local gun store); might get somewhere in that range by selling individually or selling by consignment at a LGS (minus commission); and might get at upper range of value or high in an on-line auction (minus expenses).

With everything you have, the starting price on that gun is $850.

I would personally give you $850 for that gun, with everything.

On an auction site like gunbroker.com, you will get over $1000 for it.

The pinned and recessed model 66's were only made for 10 years. They are very, very collectible. Model 19s are the same gun in blue or nickel, but 66's just go for more than 19s do.

If you do sell the gun, make sure you get top dollar for it, as you have the gun and everything that goes with it.
