Default Opinion on these J frame grips

These grips came on a used 1985 Model 60 I bought a few years ago from member OLDFELLA. Never could decide if the wood was Sandalwood or Cocobolo and if they could be Smith-Wesson or after market. Got to thinking about it again after browsing current Guns for Sale, 629-5 PC offering by 1950jcb, that have grips, other than finger grooves that look just like these. I welcome your feedback!

Attractive grips. I'm wagering they're factory J-frame target grips (aka bananas) that have been very professionally cut down to extend no further than the frame, like boot grips.

I have a set of S &W J frame bananas that were definitely S&W factory after market offerings. I bought them new in a S&W wrapped package. I like those shorter versions pictured, and have often thought of trimming the bottom from the set that I have. NICE!

Default Banana

Unless Smith Wesson made a smooth boot, I believe it is a cut down banana grip. Excellent craftsmanship. Compared it to a no copyright picture on Ebay. Never thought of it! Now what kind of wood? Sandlewood or Cocobolo

I paid $35.00 for mine on EBAY, to my chagrin, they made my 642 so much more manageable the wife has decided to get her LTC and has decided my 642 is now her carry gun........

On the bright side a mdl 640 could be in my future... hmmmm

Here's a set similar to the OP's stocks.

3 inch 337

These were cut down & thinned by a good friend that used to work on grips. As far as worth goes - I wouldn't sell 'em or trade 'em 'cause I'll never get another!
