I can't help with a value guess, but the serial puts it in 1976/77, near the end of the D prefix.

I doubt anyone can tell you the date of manufacture. The most S&W can do, as I understand it, is tell you the date it was shipped. Anything else other than receiving information direct from S&W is only an estimate as S&W did not ship out guns in serial number order in those days. There are many documented cases of guns in a serial range being shipped years, sometimes a decade or more, after one would expect a ship date based upon the serial number range.

What they said! A late D gun. Nickel helps the value quite a bit. You need to lightly Flitz it and get out the Ren Wax too. That could be a really pretty gun. If I saw it out for $500 I might look twice, but only because it's nickel. The 10-5 and 10-6 Smiths are very common. Under 10% of all post-war Smiths were done in nickel. Look at the frame under the left grip to find the "N" to insure it's factory nickel. If that was a blue or stainless steel M10-6, I be pressed to pay $350.
