The first Combat Magnum, K260003, completed on December 15, 1955. Kept in the factory collection and engraved in the early 60s by A. A. White for presentation to President JFK (JFK never received the revolver). Currently, on display at the Wood Museum of Springfield History. Click on the photo for a better look.

Smile I have picked up a couple

Here are a few of mine. Not to bad for a relativity new collector. Only one is what I would call a safe queen its a no dash 4" blued. Sbacpa and Doc44 still blow me out of the water. I did trade one off for a four screw 6.5 pre 29 recently. It was a very nice pre 19. The early six grove back strap pre 19 still eludes me as well as the19-1 nickle.
I guess I have now have 2 pre 19 blued, 2 19 no dash blued one with TH & TT, 1 19-1 4" blued, 1 19-2 4" blued, 19-4 4" blued and a dash six.
In nickle i have a pre 19 , 19 no dash with T T & TH and a dash 2. All four inch. So yep I'm a 19 hoarder!

Some very nice 19's here. I only have two, a 19-5 6" and a 19-3 4".
I put a set of Herret's on the 6". Nothing special about either of them
except they are mine.

I have only one, a 19-3 from early 1974. I'm it's second owner as I acquired it from an old shooting friend last fall. I don't believe it's had more than a couple of cylinders fired. Rich.

The only P&R M19 I own. . .a -4 made around 1978. Never really fired. You can kind of tell by the turn line that's not there. Paid $365 for it back in late 2014 mostly because of the condition.

It was given to me by my brother-in-law. His duty weapon as a CPD Commander. He had it nickel chromed, non factory, and the finish was in sad shape from holster ware etc.
So, I sent it to Ford's in FL. A long, but worthwhile wait.
Sadly just after I put the revolver in the mail to Fords, he passed. He never saw it.

Here is mine, a 1972 vintage 19-3. As it was nearly unfired when purchased by the lack of any hint of a mark on the recoil shield I can only conclude the short hammer nose was factory installed. That was corrected with the installation of a Power Custom hammer nose and it is now 100% reliable in regards to ignition. It has also become my favorite revolver to shoot but the only Magnums I use are my own hand loads that fall between 38 special +P and 357 Magnum. Yeah, it means I'm only getting perhaps 900 fps with a 158 grain bullet but it also means I'm not too concerned about damaging the forcing cone. In addition these "Magnum Lites" are lots of fun to shoot. I know, yuck Goodyears. One day I'll get around to picking up a pretty set of wood grips but I like rubber grips for shooting and this one gets shot a lot.

scored a nearly new 19-3 at a gun show today.-sw-19-3-jpg

If all you're getting is 900fps out of your 158gr load, then you are shooting the equivalent of the .38 Special +P FBI load. The only problem with forcing cone damage was tied to the hot 125gr full power magnum loads of the 70's and 80's. You can shoot full power 158gr loads without concern for forcing cone damage.

Toes in the water butt in the sand week. Here are a few of mine. Some times you gotta get them out and get the dirt dobbers out of the barrels.

My new-to-me 19-5, 2-1/2"....early 1988 production.

Extremely deep blue, almost black

Off to find some new shoes like the ones on my 66-4....there's just something about S&W blue and wood.

I hope to find a pre-19 one day.

I bought a second Texas Ranger since I posted on the first page. It's a three digit so was part of the Texas Ranger Commission revolvers. It's unfired until later this week.

I've noticed that the first ones have a slightly different latch on the wooden box and a darker finish on the stocks.

In the box (older 3-digit on the left):

The rear one has the darker stocks:

The stocks are really nice on these revolvers.

Default Peace Officer's Dream

Bill Jordan told Carl Hellstrom, then President of Smith & Wesson,
"a .357 Magnum on a k frame would be a peace officer's dream."

Poor Phil only has one, but it is all he needs. As a tribute to Mr.
Jordan it has Jordan Trooper stocks by Herretts, and has been
seen in a Jordan Border Patrol holster by Myres. It is a 19-4.
S&W tuned it up and installed the McGivern gold bead.

Here is my recent pawn shop find, a 19-3 with 2.5" barrel. It has a few blemishes, but I just couldn't resist buying. I added the BK Grip. The grip/stock/handle serial number matches the revolver (5K113XX).

19-5 I p/u at a local pawn shop. Plain Jane but nice to carry. Some DSS comments but not sure I'll get a letter just because? UPDATE: Turns out this one falls inline for a Diplomatic Security Service revolver, SKU 100701, Dec 1986, APNxxx

My only one so far, a 19-3. Just picked it up a few weeks ago. Came with rubber Pachmayr grips which were promptly switched out.

Just a plain 'ole 19-3 and a 19-4. Purty much all the revolvers I personally would ever actually need around these parts. The rest are for fun.
