I couldn't help myself 28-2
I picked up my hearing aids today and on the way home I stopped at a little pawn shop. In the rear of the case I see an N frame wearing targets in a holster. Says 357 and $750. I think maybe a 27 and as to see it. Nope it is a 6" 28-2 with an
S 2273xx serial number. Minor blue wear on muzzle and cylinder, but real tight, not much use showing on recoil shield or ejector. Commented that I already had a couple 28s. Guy up and says "I'll let it go for $600 cash with the real nice holster and gun belt." No way the belt will fit me though. I got him to toss in 2 Ruger mini 14 20 round mags for another $20 and filled out the paper.
Really didn't need another 28, but just couldn't leave it there after I petted it for a while.
Hey, did you know that they make clicks and you can hear the cylinder when it opens?

That's a great revolver in the "just right" condition to carry and shoot.
I've got a 27-2 that looks like your 28...
And my wife says I need to go get hearing aids too, but I'm not sure that's really what she said.

Funny how things like that can happen
You scored a nice shooter.
I was at the LGS today browsing before Dr appointment, there in the case was an unfired M28 4 inch, hang tag $850.
I'm a frequent buyer and can help myself to the gun case, I got it out and fondled it a bit and put it back.
I was able to use the force, only because I have two M28's already. If the price comes down, I may not be able to resist

No force here. I have 2 4" 28-2, a 4" pre 28 and another 6" 28-2. Didn't do me a lick of good. But, then one of the 4" guns and the 6" have 45 barrels waiting for them. One will get a reamed to 45 colt model 29 cylinder, the other a 45acp cylinder. Don't really need more 45s either. BUT
I have more interest in S&Ws than the bank pays.

I get weak in the knees and reach for my plastic when I see any N frame for sale. In 357 mag too? I'm binging.

My gun says he knows your gun. His name is S/N S2273xx as well.

His 6" 28-2 and my 4" 28-2 are separated by 21 numbers; the serial numbers of the revolver. S2273xx and S2273(x+2)(x+1).

I must be getting old. I remember when folks were buying up Model 28s as donor guns for all sorts of customs (especially 44 Spls before the Model 24s came back) specifically because they were so cheap and plentiful... some folks were even using NIB 28s for such projects. I would have never thought the collectibility demand would have advanced as far as it has on these "utility grade" guns originally sold as the "Highway Patrolman" for the average LEO who couldn't afford a Model 27. I guess high quality and durability will always come through, huh?

If you dress them up a little, they almost look as good as a M27. I paid $150 more for the grips than I did for the gun; but, the grips are mobile, so I can move them around to other guns too.

I bought a 28-2 yesterday as well. The gentleman that owned changed a couple of things, it had a 4" barrel which he changed to a 6" and he put a white outline rear sight on it. The good thing is he kept everything so I can change it back. Also has the orginial grips and a pair of targets. Package cost me $650 but I'll sell the 6" barrel and target grips, should put me around $500 when its all said and done.

I had a "learning moment" changing the stocks on mine. Magna stocks (not numbered to the revolver) in the upper left and target stocks in place. Those original stocks did not want to move.
Started with floss, then a business card and a very thin blade knife and finally a small plastic insurance card broke the seal. The target stocks fit fine.

Love those Model 28's. At the last Dallas Gun Show I bought a 28-2 from a friend who was thinning his collection out. This one was issued to the Texas Department of Public Safety (Highway Patrol). It must have come out of the armory because it looks like it has had very light duty. It came in the box with papers. It is pinned and recessed and has a red ramp front sight.
