Bo-Mar K Frame sight question
I have a BO-MAR rear site and front sight blade. It came with a S&W 617 8 3/8 I bought. The bag that it was in was marked K Frame. I know nothing about these. I was told the owner of Bo-Mar has passed and his shop was closed. Anybody know what they are worth, I don't think that I will ever use them ?? Thanks for any info!
If this is posted in the wrong forum please move. Thanks

I'm not sure for the S&W, but for a 1911 a set of Bo-mars run around $65-$75, plus installation gunsmith time of maybe another $150 or so. Excellent sights.

will go on a K frame that is drilled and tapped under the rear sight. So I don't think you need a gunsmith to install them.

These were made for the non-target sighted Smith and Wesson in order to have a target sight for the fixed sight revolver. The top strap was drilled and tapped and the sight installed so one could have a model 10 with an adjustable rear sight. And, as agreen60 has noted, the newer revolvers are already tapped so it could be installed on a revolver that has been drilled in order to put the Bo-Mar on in place of the factory rear sight. Very good and very classy sighting equipment!

I wouldn't be so quick to assume that these will screw right on to a factory drilled & tapped adjustable sighted gun. Judging by the contour on the underside of the sight, it appears that these are made to fit a fixed sight gun - most likely a K-frame, and will require drilling and tapping the top strap.
In revolvers, BoMar was a huge name in sights for PPC guns, most of which were based on K-frames. If you didn't install a full-length rib with integral sights, this was the set-up.
Adios,
Pizza Bob

Yeah, Pizza Bob is correct about the fit onto a previously drilled 80's gun. I made an assumption that S&W drilled the newer revolvers somewhat to match what Bo-Mar ribs but that may not be correct...... As noted, the sights were manufactured for the fixed sight revolvers as the model 10's. This allowed the m-10 to have a target sight.
As to value, I am not certain. Original Bo-Mar sights are very well made and a lot of knowledgeable gun folks will try to acquire them for custom work. It seems like I have seen some of the full ribbed sighted equipment (rear and front sight on the rib) go for c. $100+. In this case I would expect the sight is worth at least $50 to $75and perhaps more depending on availability of the same part for sale on other forums or part houses....
My understanding is that Bo-Mar is no longer in business, so, parts like this can be worth some money to someone looking for a piece like this. Now, don't hold me to this but, if I remember, this particular sight was originally meant for the heavy barrel model 10. It was constructed to fit over the back strap of the frame built for the heavy barrel and the front sight would not need to be altered..... one of the main advantages to buying this sight... Bo-Mar ran ads in all of the major gun rags of the day....Guns and Ammo, Guns, Shooting Times, American Rifleman and other that don't come to mind.... (Bo-Mar---Bob and Mary) I can't right now remember their last name.

For some reason, I'm thinking that a 1/2 ribbed winged front sight is missing from the set. I've seen revolvers with a set-up like that way back in the past. A Bomar rear sight, with the 1/2 ribbed winged front sight was used primarily as a PPC gun generally using the factory Smith barrel versus a full contour aftermarket barrel. This may not be the same set-up, but if it shoots way too high, then, you'll know that you need the matching front sight. Later on, Bomar made a rib sight that would attach directly to a Model 10 HB, just by drilling and tapping the screw holes. This made the Model 10 an adjustable sighted gun. Anyway, it's just food for thought......

That particular rear sight setup would go on top of a non-target sight gun such as a model 10. The rear sight would overhang the back of the frame a good bit; see pic #5.
Bo-Mar products were really good. I used several BCMS rears over the years.
