Default Model 10-5 manufacture date

Hi guys
Today I acquired a perfect condition Model10-5 4inch barrel. It Had the original box ( the blue one with Bangor Punta co) on it.

SN is D288XXX. $475 out the door. All the numbers match up and it seems as if the gun is either unfired or very light use. Anyone have any ideas about mfg dates, And was this gun test fired before leaving the factory.
Thanks

Probably 1970. I believe that these generally fired three rounds in test fire.

$475 OTD. Fair buy for the classic S&W. All of them were fired, per
factory policy.

Yes, 1970.
Good price for the quintessential revolver with its original box.
So are you going to shoot it or keep it a safe queen because of its pristine condition?
AND welcome to the forum.

Hey gang

Thanks for the great info. I'am thinking I might want to keep it as a safe queen being its pristine condition but man I really wanna shoot it. It has no rotation lines on the cylinder and a bore that looks new. Where would it be possible to secure a new owners manual (paper). The one with it was kinda eaten somewhat by bugs. It is dated or ID;ed 3.67 and Bangor Punta is the company listed on the front page under Smith&Wesson. In this one I can buy a new Barrel for $15.30..HMM maybe I'll order one

Welcome to the FORUM! Congratulations on the 10 also! There were SO MANY of these made. It would take a mint gun to have much collector value. So, what I am trying to say, is you will enjoy it much more if you shoot it! Only my opinion, for what it is worth. Bob

I love the balance and pointing of my four-inch 10-5 (a 1967).

If you can resist shooting that one you're a better man than I.

You did good. Very nice revolver. My 10-5 is a 2" Nickel that I bought new in 1970 for factory retail ($84.50).
