Number question
Can anyone tell what kind of gun a grip went on by the number on the grip? It was sold as a S&W J frame #116381 but will not fit my model 36! They are a bit big for my 36, they fit at the bottom but not at the top, they hang over about 1/4 inch. Thanks for any help. Ron

The number on the grip is part of the serial number of the gun it was fitted to at the factory. Any prefix like "V" or "K" is omitted.
From what you describe it's likely a k-frame piece. Pictures would help.

You might have a set of grips for a Centennial.

If by "too big, doesn't fit at the top" means they stand above the "knuckle", and if the washers are 1/2" in diameter instead of 9/16", they are for a "Centennial" or Model 40.
