Default Morning gun show find

Everyone always complains about how terrible the guns shows are but I think they just aren't looking in the right places.

I found a 4 screw model 18 with numbered stocks and a T grip and a copy of Sixguns by Keith this morning. The deals are out there you just have to keep your eyes open!

Is it the lighting or is the bluing completely gone below the cylinder release latch?

That's the lighting. The blueing is in great shape with only a small spot in front of the trigger guard

Funny, you should say this. I went to a gun show this morning and everyone was very proud of their merchandice. I saw a Mod 64-2 2inch bbl for $775.00. Was in ok shape, no box or dox. Had to pass on that one. Saw some rough Mod 10s at $500 and 600 dollars. All in all pretty poor day at the show for me.

How much fun would gun shows be if we found exactly what we wanted every time we went? If I hit a grouse every time I flushed one I'd get tired of bird hunting PDQ.

I go to gun shows for the entertainment. I think it is fair to say that black plastic is everywhere, and stuff made with blue steel and wood has become more difficult to find.

Still fun to hunt for the good stuff, though.

I'm glad I don't. I'm already standing on the Poorhouse's front porch, just haven't knocked on the door yet.

Not every show is a home run but I at least come home with a book or a set of stocks or something interesting!

I usually get just enough of those to keep me coming back and trying. There is nothing like finding something you like, holding it and getting to check it out. Just a good feeling.

I have a small gun show that's run by one of my best friends in Lake Charles La. I have been dozens of times and usually don't buy anything. But.... I have bought a nickel 17-3 and a K32.

I remember I went to Tulsa one year and all I bought was a 19-4. My local gun show was going on and I came home and went on Sunday. Bought at least 3 NIB S&Ws 29, 629, 53. All from a 200 table gun show and only a 4" 19 from the biggest gun show in the world.

Bottom line is you don't know unless you go.

I've done okay at local gun shows. I keep going back hoping for that "lunker".

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I reckon most folks here would consider that a reasonable payoff on a few dozen long-shot bets.

I haven't been to a gun show in years and not planning any in the future. I don't seem to have a problem spending my money online and other places.

By the way you did pick up a very nice example.

At the Chantilly Gun Show I presume. Have been looking for a pinned barrel Model 18 for about a year that is not way over priced.

Nice.

I love the Model 18. Its my favorite S&W revolver.
They're hard to find because those who have 'em, tend to keep 'em. I know mine ain't goin' nowhere.
Prices are high due to demand. Last one I saw at a gun show was priced at $1050. That was some time ago and it was only about 80%. More realistically, I'd say prices in the $600-800 range are about normal with prime specimens going over $1000.
If you want one, you're just gonna have to be ready to jump when you run across it and bite the bullet.

You are right, I passed up a couple in the $700-$800 range during the past year. Wish I had not!

Yes it was at Chantilly. The guy had this model 18 and a model 18-3 New in the Box for a reasonable price.

I did fairly well at $525

"I remember I went to Tulsa one year and all I bought was a 19-4"

I went once as well. I also only bought one gun and that was primarily so I wouldn't go home empty handed after 2 days of looking and traveling hundreds of miles. That will probably be my 1st and last experience with that show. Big certainly isn't always better.

I went to the Missouri Valley Arms Collectors show yesterday and was sitting on a bench outside at 08:30. There was an old guy that set across from me had a 18-3 in a wrong box with 18 papers marked for $500.00.

He said he would guarantee me it had never been fired. It is in perfect shape without a mark on it. It's now in my safe.

I already had a nice pre 18 and a good shooter 18-2. I couldn't pass on the 18-3.

In the show I saw a really nice 18-4 priced at $1,000.00. I'm happy.

So, YOU'RE the one hoggin' up all the 18's. No wonder we can't find one. ;-)

Five or six years back I bought a LNIB 18-3, TH TT at Reno for $650. At the time a bit high, but I wanted the TT/TH options BADLY. NOW...not so high.

LOL.

Sad, but true. Most gun shows, especially in Kalifornia, could be more aptly named T-shirts and miscellaneous **** shows. However, I still have fun attending because you just never know what you may stumble upon. Kinda like an Easter egg hunt in a dog park.

The grips on the center revolver are unmistakably Keith brown's work, and are a perfect looking size, and shape, or better yet, the revolver looks like it was built to fit the grips, or stocks, whichever tickles your innards. What style or size would they be classed at?

I never had any luck finding antique guns at any gun show. Every old S&W revolver I came across looked like the dude pulled it out from the bottom of the Titanic wrapped up in sea weed.

Hoping to get the Mod. 18 and the .22 outdoorsman out to the range on Friday.

I have had the OD for almost a year and haven't taken it to the range yet.... Does that happen to anyone else cause it seems to happen to me pretty often?

So in other words if I find an 18-3 circa 1971 with original box and virtually no wear or turn ring I should snag it for 750 bucks ? These are the only pictures seller had.

That one has the wrong stocks on it. Correct stocks would be magnas, not PC magnas. I'd also like to see the end label on that box. It is also possible it may have originally had target stocks and someone removed them. At any rate, it is unlikely those are the original stocks that shipped with the gun, unless they are numbered to the gun.

Looking forward to our local show in Sept. I have come up with some great finds at the shows. IF NOTHING ELSE, there is plenty of entertainment at hand. I have show withdrawals in the summer! Bob
