Model 58 range report.
Using full power loads with a 215 grain Keith type bullet rested at 15 yards. Yes, all six shots are there.
This is six shots fired at five yards using one hand rapid fire. Basically the "Oh Shoot! Oh Shoot!" drill unloading as fast as possible. No timer but probably around three seconds.
Same drill but using a two hand hold. Actually shot a slightly tighter group one handed. Go figure. Maybe I'm a "Shootist" at heart. Both groups show little windage deviation but serious vertical stringing. Likely a function of the muzzle climbing in recoil.
Conclusions: The revolver functions perfectly and I actually shot this pistol better than I do most handguns. I would even feel confident using as a self defense weapon given my ability to put rounds on target in rapid fire mode even with the heavy recoil. Frankly (I can speak Frankly) I surprised myself with how well I could manage the recoil in rapid fire.
Also shot the Model 57 for comparison. It did much better in slow fire and I didn't try it in rapid fire. A 15 yards target with the same full power ammo.

I don't shoot anything well with the Magna style stocks. When I would shoot my -58, I put Pachmayr's on it.
Good shooting, Saxon Pig.

Of course, it depends a great deal on the size of your hands, upper body strength, and your training but, after studying Elmer Keiths' guns, he was partial to "magna style" grips with carved steer heads to fit his palm.
Not being able to afford carved ivory grips I traded down from several different styles of "target" grips to magnas with Tyler T grips. The control provided by a better fit was astounding and a lot less pain.
I know, it sounds counter intuitive but,dog gone, it works for me!Nick

Yes. I had a blue ex-cop 58 that I traded for this one with an officer who wanted mine because it was used by his late father's PD and he wanted a gun from that department. Serial is 12 off from his dad's gun. I'd had the 58 since 1989 but understood how important it was to him and swapped with him. Mine was the first one he'd found in years of searching.

How about some eyes that are 20 years younger so I can see the target at 25 yards?
