Got Lucky - Found a S&W 18-4,TT,TH Orig, Box , papers and tools
Ladies & Gentleman, I have found a nice one!
A 1980 S&W 18-4 , Original Box marked with the serial Number, TT and TH both checked off, Grips numbered to the gun, papers and tools and as an added bonus, my neighbor, a retired cop, gave me a beautiful set of target grips this weekend to top it all off. It shoots like a dream too.
Needless to say, I am happy!

Very Nice and you'll love shooting it with those Targets on.
Something special about the Combat Masterpiece K22
I have an 18-2 with targets and a Pre-18 with box in original
configuration. Sorry about the lousy picture.
18-2 second from left----Pre-18 in middle K Frame group shot.

Mine is from a couple of years later, 1982 to be specific. It also came with Magna stocks, to which I added a set of targets.
It's got the box and papers too, but I don't have any pictures of that stuff.

Congratulations! I feel your JOY! I love my Md 18. Mine is from ca. 1959. I don't care much for the way Targets fit me, so I've left on the magnas. I like the way magnas look on 4 inch guns too.

One of my all time favorites. Mine is an 18-2 with standard hammer and trigger, purchased slightly used in about 1982. Great shooter!
If yours is like mine you may find it has strong preferences for ammunition. Mine does not like the cheap bulk .22 LR, prefers standard or premium R-P ammo, otherwise will FTF frequently.
Enjoy!

I've said it many times, the Model 18 is my favorite revolver. Its the ideal gun to learn and practice your double action trigger pull.
Bubba, ya done good!

What Type of wood did S&W use on my Target grips?
Hey Everybody, WOW, I did not know there were folks on this site that collected such beautiful S&W Model 18's those pictures are fantastic.
I really waited a long time to find one like this in this condition and I am very happy.
The Target grips are made out of beautiful wood but I do not know what type of wood it is....can anyone who is versed in S&W history tell me?
Also, the cut at the top of the grip, a friend suggested that it is for ease of using a speed loader....True or false?

Ya done real good guy, congrats.
Your -4 has pinned barrel, which IIRC was dropped during the -4 series, so you will see some with and some without it. And to have the package (box, docs, tools, etc) and in that condition, are gems to find.
I'm guessing the grips are Goncala Alves, a south american rose wood if not mistaken. And yes, "the cut at the top of the grip" is typically known as a speedloader cutout.
Care to share what something like that went for? It can really rub it in to us guys that drool over that stuff. Again, congrats.

You're going to love that model 18. I have an 18-2 with target grips and it's my go to .22. I found a really nice 18-3 at the Kansas City MVAC show last week. My pre 18 was picked up this spring at Tulsa. My favorite K 22s.
