Default New guy here with a pair of Smiths...

I recently got a good deal on a fine pair of revolvers from a long time neighbor of mine. He's had them for years and shot them very little espeically the 629-2E .44 Mag. The other is a nice Model 66 (with no dash) 4 inch .357 Mag.
I had to replace the missing red front sight insert of the 66 and using a piece of bright orange weed eater filament it worked out very well.
Going to get out to my range area this afternoon and run some rounds thru them!
I have several other revolvers in my small collection being Rugers and a couple Uberti's in SA .45 Colt.

Repaired 66 front sight insert

Well I will say less than 1000 bucks.
The 629-2E has a crazy history...About 20 or years ago there was a guy down the end of the street that was a gun collector and he was in bad health but was looking for a cheap vehicle to drive.
The neighbor I bought these from happen to have a 1980's Mercury Capri he bought from another neighbor which he in turn traded to the collector guy for the gun!
Now my neighbor now in his 80's wants to sell out and move South so I think I did OK on the deal.
From reading here and other places the 629-2E of 1989 era is a good one to have and I like big bore short barrel revolvers.
The 629's bunk buddy is my Ruger 454/45 Alaskan with 2.5 inch barrel.

However I believe I'm going to like shooting that Model 66!

Here is some food for thought, if you ever want to reinstall a front ramp insert. I can't say enough good things about the Brownells kit. Great looking pair by the way!
