Model 57-0???
I just saw a gun that perplexed me. Perhaps somebody here can she some light as there is very little info I can find,
Its a mdl 57-0. I know of no dash guns but a -0? All I could find is that it may denote they made a stamping error when originally stamped? Can anybody give more info on this? Specifically the -0 is what I am trying to get info.
Its a 4" blue S-prefix.

Dash 0 is short for no dash. An "S" prefix 57 in 4" would be nice to have, especially if it came with Cokes.

This is seen occasionally, usually when a frame starts out intended for another model then changed. For example, it may have started out as a 29-2, and then was over stamped the 2 with a 0 so it wouldn't be a 57-2. Have a close look under the 0 and you may see another digit.

The stamping of -0 after the model number seems to be limited to the Model 57. Why S&W did this is anyone's guess, but means the same as MOD. 57.

I had a 57-0 6" blue, N324510. It looked like it was intentionally stamped that way. I couldn't detect any sign of an over stamp.

I have also seen one, and I did not detect an overstamp.
I think it simply comes down to some guy sitting in the Factory one day, and thinking "I hope I live long enough to see this one hit the S&W Forum. It'll drive 'em CRAZY!"

I have seen only pictures, here on this forum. Smith & Wesson is always entertaining! I'm betting some new guy was working in frame stamping and asked "What dash number?" to one of the old hands......
