Default Model 27-2 value and opinions .

I will be looking at a true 99% ( no box ) 8 3/8 " tomorrow. Target trigger, target grips. Never owned anything like that . Gun is made in mid 1970's. N118XXX. Is 1000.00 too much? If so, what do they sell for these days ? How do they shoot compare to 6 inch models ? Thanks.

Just my opinion from observations....the long tubes generally don't have the popularity of the shorter ones. But if it's what you want, it's worth it.

While that long barrel is the least desirable, I really like them. I would say that $1000 is right at the top of the price range. I might pay it for a nice one.

I just looked at one in the same condition that was priced at $1100. When I found out that did not include a presentation case, tools, or even a box, I walked. I figured $800 tops.

Price is high but not real bad if you want it. They shoot great but are awfully long for anything but a target gun.

With prices of S&W revolvers at an all time high I think that the price is not all that high in this market. If you like it and feel it's worth it then buy it.

Here is mine, I picked it up at an estate sale/auction about 4 years ago. Never fired, NIB. Paid $700.00
But I think that I got an especially good deal and prices should be higher now. They had a nickle version too, for the same price. I should have picked it up (same presentation case, tools, etc). But I never really cared for nickle guns. Especially bright nickle.

To echo other posters, $1k sounds a bit high to me for that particular bbl length, but I've overplayed for guns I've really wanted in the past.

Think I paid $200 for mine NIB, might have been less, of course that was in 1974 at the Rod & Gun Club in Stuttgart. The CPI inflation calculator says that $200 would be $976 in today's value so the price you're looking at isn't too far off just on an inflation basis. They shoot very well, I used mine to shoot woodchucks in Vermont when I got off active duty. As a previous poster mentioned, the long barrel is a bit ungainly for extended carry although I use to carry mine quite a bit in a Bianchi cross draw holster. Still have it, shoot it once in awhile, but have since acquired 5 inch 27-2s and they're a bit better for balance and carrying. Enjoy.

If it is nickel, I'd be inclined to think $1k is a decent price. I really like the long barrels when they are nickel. If blued, maybe a bit high, especially since there are no box, docs or tools.
