Family of S&W's help id?
So I have a family member, bought several things over the years for investments. Now it's time for him to cash in those investments and enjoy some extra cash for things he wants.
Obviously as a military collector I was given first shot at everything and now i'm looking to help him value the portion of his collection which is out of my realm of knowledge. I must admit...a few catch my attention :-) The others I'll probably teach him how to use GB or take him to the local gunshows.
So here they are....this is all I know on them and hopefully it's enough. If I need to gather more info I can.
this one he has marked as:
item 1: S&W 36 2" BL RB .38 (FLAT LATCH) SN 3961XX
Item 2: S&W 36 2" CH SB .38 (1969)(BOUGHT NEW) SN: 9J11xx
ITEM 3: S&W May have to get further info. but looks to be a triple lock. His notes say its: S&W MOD 1910P .44SPL "T/LOCK" 6" BBL SN: 8xx* (yes 3 digits and yes the * is included)
Item 4: this is the oldest. looks like a very old refinish job.

Sir, the first two revolvers are NOT model 36's, they are model 38's/Bodyguard. Both appear to be nice condition shooter grade revolvers, neither has any special collectors value. Sorry I got nothing on the others.
Added- The T lock appears to have a set of after market sights installed. If this is correct, that greatly reduces any collectors value, SORRY.

The first one is definitely a Model 38 Bodyguard Airweight. You can see the Airweight stamp on the barrel. It is probably from late 1964, which agrees with the diamond stocks and the third style flat latch.
I think it might be safe to assume the second one is also a Model 38 Bodyguard Airweight, but I cannot see the Airweight stamp on the barrel. If it is not there, this one would be a Model 49 Bodyguard (steel frame). It's easy to check. The model number will be stamped in the yoke cut.
Also on Item 2, if "CH" is intended to mean "chrome" then he is mistaken. It is nickel plated. Moreover, the serial number does not align with 1969. 9J11xx would be from the 1971-72 period. Finally, if "SB" is intended to mean "square butt" this is incorrect. The revolver clearly has a round butt.

If the * is included with the serial number on the Triple Lock, it usually means it went back to the factory for some kind of work. Not necessarily detrimental to value, but those crazy sights probably diminish value to an extent. I like it though, mostly because of it's peculiarities.
I'm leaning toward the nickel .38 being a model 49 steel frame, late model.

Yea I'm seriously thinking on making him an offer on the triple lock, heck it looks military with the sights :-) but most of all....it looks like a hand cannon !! Bet it's fun to shoot! But darn it if I didn't just 6 mo ago sell some dies I got in trade :-(

I would say that numbers 1, the model 30 or31 in 32long and number 3, the model 36 are each in the $300 range. Both show quite a bit of wear which greatly reduces the value.
Can’t say on the other two. Humpbacks just aren’t my thing.
You can probably get a good idea of values by joining Gunbroker and searching the completed auctions. Keep in mind that values can vary by geographic location.
