I only have 4 , 41 magnums . 2 model 57's , one 6" blue and one 4" nickel . I have a model 58 carried in a custom shoulder holster and last is a ruger blackhawk 4 5/8" barrel .
My sister has a S&W 57 in 4" nickel , it is her all time favorite revolver / caliber . So yes , 41's in my family are held in high regard .

Model 19s generally didn't come from the factory with a red ramp front sight or Target Hammer which that gun appears to have...

No. That was my first thought, also. Because if it's an N-frame, that's one massive hand!

You can verify the revolver in the photo is a 41 Magnum (N-frame) by examining the area on the frame in front of the cylinder. An N-frame has a flat area on the frame under the area where the barrel enters the frame, but a Combat Magnum has a rounded area. I didn't explain this very elequently, but if you compare the two models side by side the difference is readily apparent.

...Cokes that came on the first couple of years of production are more like 4-6X the original purchase price... Saw a set on eBay a few months ago sell for $800....

He must also be the person they used when designing the original N-frame target stocks. They look beautiful, but HOLY SMOKES! There can't be 5% of the population that can actually grip them properly.

I am part of that 5% I quess because I like target stocks and stocks that cover that back strap. But, then I wear XXL gloves and rip the seams open on XL if I force my hands into them.

Magnas are just way to small for many of us.

I bought a Henry Big Boy Steele a month ago, sighted it at 100 yards, 1" groups with 210 jsp. Love the new "brush" gun, goes well with 57's and 58.

There is a Henry .41 in our LGS now, it's a beautiful rifle. I think they are better made that the Marlin nowdays. I'll bet it'd shoot very flat with a 210gr bullet. I think Elmer Keith said years ago that the then new .41 shot a bit flatter than his .44 mag.

Thanks Frank! You betcha I'm gonna shoot it. Bought one box of Remington cartridges for my baseline and have hand loaded 3 different recipes as well. Was waiting till xmas as my son bought me a chronograph. I'll have it out in the near future. I have the other 4 N calibers circa 79-80 as well. Several were NIB, no safe queens here. Smith made them to shoot and I damn well do.

Hey I'm waiting to hear about your chronograph sessions. I've got a chrony & really like it. Do you have any 700X, my Cousin got me to using it for light loads in the .41 with lead bullets it's a lot of fun. Be sure to post a range report.
Thanks.

Mike...that is quite the gun....enjoy!!

The factory 210 Remington JSP should be doing in the area of 1300-1350 fps from a 6" barrel. They run 1250 from the 4" 57s I have.

Let us know what your loads are and how they run...

I'd ask my library, I've had library's borrow books from other librarys if they don't have it.
Go on Amazon if you want a copy for yourself, they might have it it's well worth having. Most people carry autos now, but a LOT of his information carrys over to autos.

Went over to Amazon to see if they have this book. Found one place that puts a very high premium on "No Second Place Winner."

It's a new hard cover book at only $2,443.78.

Plus $3.99 for shipping.

Just like some gun listings on Gunbroker.... someone is waiting for a sucker to bite. The funny thing about it, is that there are 4 sellers, and they are all in lockstep with each other on the price within a few cents... hmmmmm.

Go look at the used/out of print book websites:

Advanced Book Exchange (abebooks.com) has them starting at $17.50.

Alibris (alibris.com) has a few too, but higher.

I mainly use ABE for out of print books... better selections and cheaper prices.

And... you ought to see the prices being asked for either of Skeet Skelton's 2 books... a Century note and higher, if you can find them.

Also about Jordan and his giant sized hands... he found the S&W target grips too small, and did like how they are narrow at the tops to do his high hold.

He came up with the Herrett Jordan grips. I bought a used set off of eBay... my God, I had to spend 20 minutes with a Dremel tool and a sanding drum to whittle them down to normal human proportions to fit my hand... I couldn't reach the trigger beforehand.

If you can find a copy of one for a reasonable price they are well worth the read. Mine was purchased when they first came out & autographed by Bill Jordan. I don't even loan it out.
