Hello folks:
I found this moon clip loading/unloading tool by Demooner.com but the site is a bit archaic and there is not much infor regarding the specs. My question is this I got some moonclips from the Revolver Supply Co and the diameter of the arbor is .573 for the 45 ACP . Is any aware if these would fit this tool?

A demooner is free! Any 6" piece of tubing that will slip over the brass with a protrusion filed in the end will work fine. For loading the moon clips, especially the 8 rd clips, this is the best one!

I looked at the Deluxe Moon clip Tool and they don's take anything but money order or check no credit cards and you have to download and mail the order, 50 behind time so to speak. I want to order it get done and over with.

If that's a chore for you, I'd avoid moon clips.

I made my own from a piece of copper tubing cut long enough to hold six empty cases and plugged on one end, the working end has a slight notch cut into it to fit over the moon clip allowing the user to fit it over a selected cartridge and with a slight twisting motion remove it from the clip. I found moon clips to be a slight irritation since I did not need them for fast reloads in shooting competition and switched over to 45 Auto Rim, which works just like a standard revolver cartridge and actually can be pushed to higher pressures because it has a full case head, it ain't a good idea to use those +p loads in your 1917 model.
Incidentally I have a good friend that was using a model 25 in police competition and had a bent moon clip cause him to miss winning a shooting event, he was so upset he threw him moon clips away, switched to auto rim and never looked back. They do manufacture "speed strips" that with practice will allow you to reload quite quickly and they easily fit in your pocket.

It is not a chore is just much faster processing that's all.

Removing the spent cases is the easy part. Like mentioned, a piece of copper pipe, old golf club, etc. I made an insertion tool from a couple of pieces of aluminum flat bar with a notch milled in one side. Making the arbor was the biggest challenge. Now that I have more and better shop equipment, it would be pretty easy. Somewhere I have a picture. If I can find it, I'll post it. Here's one:

And another. There is a demooner ring on the end of one handle, but the copper pipe is quicker.

I bought a tool from Deluxe Moon Clip Tool, which works very well for both "mooning" and de-mooning clips. They have arbors for all sizes, including 8-round .357 clips with either round or octagonal center holes. There are two holes in the end of the lever for .357 or .45 respectively, which work better than some dedicated de-mooning tools I've used.

They take checks or money orders, and deliver promptly. However you order by mail using a PDF form available on the website.

I'm set up for 627 clips, round or octagonal, and a 686 PC 7-round.

You do not have to use moon clips for rimmed cartridges. You can buy 8-round speed loaders from www.5starfirearms.com. They're machined from a solid block of aluminum, which can be bright or anodized, and various loading blocks and accessories.

The BMT moon clip tools are the best one currently out there. I have tried them all. Not cheap, but if you do a lot of moons, it's a real time and hand saver.

I got a bunch of .45 Auto Rim brass many years ago. That way I never fool with moon clips.

Once you try these, you will never look back...or ahead...for anything else! Absolutely the best!

Yes I spoke to them yesterday that is made by the CCW. I spoke to the today again and the mandrel that comes with the tool is too big a diameter for my moon clips from RSC and they would not exchange for a mandrel that would fit my moon clips .551 or 14mm, so that meat an additional $9.00 for a mandrel close to mine and a mandrel that I would never use so I did not order this tool.

Update on the moonclip tool- I made my own it is functional and best of all cost me $.00 I had all the materials at home...go figure

I have a Deluxe Moon Clip tool set-up for .45 ACP. The mandrel diameter is .575". I use Ranch Products clips (also technologically behind the times, but many cottage industries are, and that is fine with this Old Fart). The center of the clip is hexagonal and measuring flat-to-flat it is .612" and work just fine with the DMCT.

While I know that Revolver Supply has gone off the reservation as far as the center opening with his 9 mm/.38 Super clips (larger than any others), I find it hard to believe that their .45 ACP clips are anything but the standard for the industry.

While I think the BMT is overkill for 6-shot revolvers, I think it is a must have for the 8-shot ones. It is the finest load/unload tool out there and if I hadn't already had my DMCT, I would have bought one for my .45 ACP guns and also my .40 S&W.

Ha! Looks an awful lot like the one I made. If you want to make it even better, add an extended C shape cut where the cartridge touches the lever. Also, how did you hold the bolt head up off the fixed side? Washer?

Yes I do have a C cut if you look carefully you will see it. I drill the fixed side and used a through hexagonal bolt the arbor or mandrel is a nut with the silicone inside to hold it but I had to use my Dremel tool to make it fit the hole of the moon clips which is 14mm or .551" from Revolver Supply Co. I mean is not fancy and glorious but it does the job fine I am happy how it turned out. The de-mooning tool is a leather hole cutting tool that I matched to the bullet and cut it in half at the tip and works fine too.
