Evan Williams Done It To Me Again
Last night while perusing these forums and the state forum I buy/sell/trade in frequently, I was enjoying an Evan and Coke. Now, I only ever have one, but it is a stiff one, probably two ounces of Bourbon. It usually takes me at least an hour to finish it.
Well, Evan has started making suggestions while I'm looking. I was looking at pictures of a 3", rb Model 10 a fellow had offered in trade for a shotgun I had for sale. While that trade didn't work out, I kept the Model 10-5 in mind.
While I was looking at the pictures, right out of the blue, Evan said, "Why don't you make him an offer?"
It sounded good at the time, so I did so.
Woke up this morning thinking, "Did I do that?"
I did, and the fellow took the offer.
Not a bad deal, I think, at $450 OTD.
It really looks better than the pictures.

Don't see too many 3" model 10s now that the influx of the Australian revolvers have all found homes - most of those were square butts - like the one I have.
Nice score - enjoy

Not bad looking at all. I don't think you got hurt too bad. I have been on the prowl for a 3-inch Model 10 myself for several years now and never seem to see them. A few years ago they were at every gun show I visited, and I go to very few. Now - zip!
Congratulations on the new revolver.

Something about those RB Target grips. They sure do work well for me. Nice pickup.

Did you end up keeping the shotgun? I hope so, that thing is a beaut! By the way, I am thinking of sending you a gallon jug of Evan Williams for Christmas......then calling you on New Years Eve and talking you out of that shotgun, LOL!

You need to try Evan Williams Single Barrel. Might end up with a Model 27.

Any achcolic beverage and a gun auction site make strange bedfellows.

I did indeed keep the shotgun. I have had it for forty years, and just couldn't bring myself to part with it. It is a putty thang. I suppose it is as good to keep in the safe as money would be.
That Christmas jug sounds good, but you ain't getting my Browning.

My buddy Wes and his friend Jim were sitting at the computer one night. He was having a pretty good time and stayed up late, but he's retired so who cares. Then he woke up the next morning and realized what he'd done. When he went to bed satisfied, he was the high bidder on a new caddy Escalade. Of course with no way to pay for it. He jumped out of bed and ran down stairs to the computer. Lucky for him he was outbid.
Now he and Jim aren't allowed to play on the computer together. Beam is Jim's last name.

Every stupid thing I ever did while drinking Evan Williams, I KNEW just before I did it, how stupid it was, and it would come to no good end;.... but the knowing just never could stop the doing.
I don't drink E W any more.....any less either.

Nice 10 you got yourself in to. Not a beauty queen, but functional. I picked up a 10-5 2" rb earlier this year. Love the way it shoots. Enjoy your "Evan Special" Bob

I'd say that you did OK for being under the influence, but I also have to agree with your choice of intoxicant. Definitely one of the better bourbons.

For those who chastise me over mixing a little Co'Cola (that's what we call it down here), with my Evan, I want you to know that I subscribe to the Lewis Grizzard philosophy. Remember the flap some years back when Coke was going to change the formula and come out with an abomination called "New Coke"?
Ol' Lewis said in his column,
"The only way that I could figure they could improve upon Coca-Cola, one of life's most delightful elixirs, which studies prove will heal the sick and occasionally raise the dead, is to put bourbon in it.”
Now I'm not a big drinker. One of the big jugs, I believe 1.75 liters?, will last me 2-3 weeks. I guess I started buying EW because it is a little cheaper than Jim or Jack, which I believe are the bourbons of choice for most rednecks like me. I don't see any reason to pay the price for the very good brands of "sippin' whiskey," those made to be consumed neat, or over a little ice.
The way I figure it, Evan is pretty fair "cheap whiskey."

W.L. Weller makes good bourbon, as does Maker's Mark. But I don't mix alcohol and guns.
You came out better than most who mix such things.

Thought I'd poke it with a stick and see what happens redlevel. Nothing wrong with a little Coke in your bourbon, enjoy it myself sometimes.
And Evan Williams white or black label is pretty fair bourbon no matter what the price on the bottle is.

Evan Williams is good stuff, and I've tried it once or twice. Another good one in that price bracket is Ezra Brooks. It gets extra points for bottling in a real glass jug with a genuine CORK on top. And it's 86.8 proof, like the good old days. Not to nit-pick, but Jack Daniel's label says "Tennessee Whiskey", not bourbon. Don't ask me what the difference is.

AFAIK, the difference is that bourbon is made in KY, and JD is made in TN.

In the long ago (thirty-five years) Evan Williams was my brand. Evan and a few other beverages kept me too poor to buy guns, which is just as well.
Good whiskey, though, as I recall.
