Price check Nickel 57 no dash 8 3/8
Friend is offering me a model 57 no dash, ser # range N79xxx, nickel, allegedly in excellent condition. I have not examined the gun, but presume it has been little used, per description.
No box or papers.
He is asking $700. Seems like a good price to me. Gunbroker asking prices seem to be over a thousand.
Is $700 a good deal? A smoking hot deal?
Thanks.

Hello Mr. Cock, you have not even seen the gun yet. Are you price driven or shooter driven? I have had a few and they are beauties to own and shoot. Yea, $700 seams fair.

Very fair price if all original. Should be a great shooter.

Thanks.
Deal off. I found out it doesn't have original grips. Grotesque Pachmayrs instead.

He wouldn't bring his price down? You can get some fine grips for less than $100. As you said, most of these on GB start at $1000 or more, but yes many of those are pristine and have box and papers.
I'm actually looking for a shooter 27 or 57, nickel 8-3/8", so have been scouring GB and elsewhere looking for a deal.

Eek! The dreaded Pachmayrs. Oh, the horror :O
Nickel 8&3/8 M57s aren't common, and a high-condition N frame is at least worth $600. I'd be applying a nice coat of Ren wax on that right now... but that's just me. FWIW.

I'm generally not a nickel finish gun fan, but I remember seeing a nickel 8 3/8" Model 57 one time and thinking it was one of the most beautiful S&W's I had ever seen. If I found one in excellent condition for $700, Pachmayrs wouldn't deter me at all, I'd be on it like Hillary at an ugly pantsuits sale.

Imagine how foolish you would have felt to pay a fair price.Good thing it had rubber.

I have one, same gun, its a very accurate and has plenty of knock down power.
Seems like a deal to me, the Goodyears may not be pretty, but my hands and wrist appreciate them after about 50 rounds. It takes less than 4 minutes to switch the grips to wood, I have both types.

I like Herretts Shooting Stars. I have 2 pair...one on a 66-2 6 inch and the other on a M-67. I paid $20.00 for one pair and 10.00 for the other at 2 different gun shows. Get the gun then hunt for the wood!!
