My Model 10-5 grips update and range report
Thanks to the generous human resources of this forum and an unexpected bargain buy on eBay ($12.50 for the Pach Grippers delivered), I am fortunate enough to have the opportunity to try my vintage Model 10-5 police revolver with different grips.
I have shot it before with the target grips that came with it, but they were uncomfortable and too big for my hand. I had the opportunity to shoot it today in beautiful sunny and dry weather with some nice wood grips and a set of rubber Pachmayr Gripper grips.
Both sets of grips made it look and feel more like a real police carry. The rubber grips felt really nice in my hands and were more comfortable especially with Perfecta 158 grain ammo, but the wood ones sure are pretty. I was much more accurate using the new wood and Pach grips because of the hold I was able to get on the gun.
Here are pics of the gun with the target grips, wood grips, and Pach grips. I have a couple of more type grips to try also. What fun this is!

Congratulations, sir.
Those Pachmayr grips look very comfortable.
How do you like them?
I've considered to get some for my 10-7, to shoot it and reduce the wear and tear on the factory grips, but struggle to get used to the look. Can't get over the fact the wood "service" grips look so much better.

Hello Frank, how far did you go with the clean after removal of the side plate? Removal of all the moving parts to a bare frame? Just curious.

This looks like one of the Victoria PD returns. I have one that I put some Grashorn's grips on. Great shooter after cleaning and spring replacement.
Like OP says, don't need to anguish over a classic/primo example. Have fun and shoot it!

Scared to go all the way...
as far as my gun.
I had a local gunsmith friend do the internal cleaning and checking stuff since he has the tools and knowledge. He took the side plate off with some special screwdriver and got it to come off with a wooden handle that he tapped on the side of the rear frame grip that are usually covered by grips. He sprayed down the internals and didn't remove anything, just cleaned and lubricated it really well.

Thank you. I really do like how they feel and think they go well with the gun. The wood grips are prettier, but for this gun in its condition and look the Pachs look right at home.
Full hand grip for fingers including under the trigger guard makes for accurate and comfortable shooting.

Nice shooter there Frank....
I use the Grippers on my 19-8 when hiking in the mountains or afield. They are comfortable and allow for a positive grip even with sweaty hands.
Enjoy Pard....

Diego-
I have Pachmayr Grippers on my Ruger GP-100 and think they're ideal for it. I use Pachmayr Presentations on my S&W M-66 and the discontinued Uncle Mike's grips are a close runner-up.
I don't mind the appearance, and the rubber grips handle recoil better than wood. Yes, I've used wood grips, too.

I love the standard barrel 10-5.
You will enjoy that one for years.

I left the service magnas on my 1977 4 inch tapered barrel S&W 10-5 with a vintage Tyler T-Grip adapter. Can't beat it!

If you are still looking for magical stocks, you may want to take a look at Herretts. I have them on my 28, and 586. Fantastic feel & function for me. Bob
