Default An interesting model 57

I brought home another model 57 yesterday, a flavor I didn't have. It is a nickel, 4 inch, model 57-0. I thought the dash 0 was interesting and under some magnification I can see 29-2 lightly stamped under the 57-0. Serial number puts it in the 75 to 76 year area. It joins a lot of blued versions, and a 6inch and 8&3/8 nickeled as well as stainless cousins and foreign friends of the same caliber.

That's interesting. I've had a Model 35 for years that is over-stamped and you can plainly see the frame was initially stamped Model 34. I always assumed it was a parts gun that was rebarreled and then over-stamped but subsequently I have learned that practice was not uncommon in the era my 34/35 was produced. I wonder if that could be the case with your 57, particularly if it is a late 60s serial number.

Sounds like a cool gun with a different twist. I too have a soft spot for the 41. Have been considering an 8"er to go with the sixes, 4's, and 3 inch. Enjoy that bright beauty.

Never heard of a 57-0 before. Is it pinned or recessed? Just curious, sounds like a neat gun.

There are some -0 models that exist. Not the same thing as a no dash.

There is a pic on another post. It is a dash 0 because it would have looked like a 57-2 , since it was originally stamped 29-2.It is pinned and recessed. Hope that helps.
