Default I Started Collecting Vintage Smith&Wesson Revolvers

Hello fellow Smith&Wesson enthusiasts! I'm new to the forum, and I recently started collecting Smith&Wesson vintage Revolvers. Here is my fist one out of the gate, a model 66 no-dash with the original box, papers, and cleaning tools. Here's to my new found hobby, I hope you all enjoy the pics. I welcome your thoughts or comments, and thank you in advance for any advice you can give to a new collector!

Welcome! This one is a good start to your collection and is from early 1975.

Both my father and brother were/are in your profession and locale. Enjoy!

Welcome aboard here. I suspect that finding old collectible Smiths is about as hard as pulling teeth at times!

Welcome aboard, that a nice clean gun. Located in socal myself, there are nice guns here but they are not always easy to locate. (Especially at a decent price.) . Gotta be patient . Lots at estate sales and yard sales, just have to ask if they have any guns they would like to sell.
Good luck, and dont be afraid to ask questions , usually someone around here knows the answer, or how to find the answer. Bob

It really makes me feel old when a Model 66 is called "Vintage."

Agreed, when the OP said vintage I thought '20s-'30s... Hard to imagine the mid '70s was 40 years ago...

Great start to a collection though!!

DDS, ya done good. The model 19/66's are one of the best all around revolvers ever produced. "Everything you need in a firearm, and nothing you don't need."

Now a word of warning. Smith and Wesson collecting can quickly become a very expensive addiction. But it's a Hell of a lot of fun.

By the way, welcome to the forum.

"Lol!!!! Okay, maybe I should have left out the "vintage" part!"

Ya come on KID, you youngsters gotta show a little respect.

Welcome aboard!! You will find the folks on the forum not only knowledgable, but quite collegial as well. There are world class experts here, (no, I'm not one) the guys who literally "wrote the book" on Smith ans Wessons!!

Great start to a wonderful addiction...whoops, I mean "hobby".

Best Regards, Les

Here is the link for history letters:

Smith & Wesson Historical Foundation - Letter Process - Insuring that the rich history of Smith & Wesson will continue for generations to come

Don Mundell may have something to do with these, and if he tells you it's not a 1975 gun I'd tend to believe him and not me .

And so the fatal slide begins. socalDDS, you are so hosed.

(I'm a high-mileage 1937 model, so only paleontologists study my vintage.)

Made in the 200th year of American Liberty. Looks like a July 1976 gun to me. I think that one's worthy of a letter. It sure is nice!

Welcome to SWCA. With this hobby you first purchase can be the start when you include the SS rear sight along with 3 barrel lengths for a total of 6 model 66. Then start on the model 66 without pinned barrels or recessed cylinders.
